Required Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.)
Five years of office/secretarial experience
Outstanding written, verbal communication and interpersonal skills with diverse populations
Demonstrated proficiency in the use of office technology and other computer software
Valid CDL with current S and P endorsements (or the ability to obtain within the first few months of employment)
Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and possess strong human relation skills
Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and concisely in oral and written form
Demonstrated ability to work independently and under stressful situations and maintain flexibility
Capable of performing the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations

Preferred Qualifications:
Working knowledge of the general organization and functions of the major units of FCPS
Experience working in a public transportation enterprise
Understanding of public school transportation policies and procedures including state mandated COMAR regulations
Demonstrated proficiency in the use of People Soft and Mapnet
Demonstrated ability to manage an office, train, and supervise others
Demonstrated ability to anticipate work demands and to be pro-active
Demonstrated evidence of continuous professional growth
Demonstrated strong human relations skills, with adults and students, which have created a positive and inviting work environment
Familiarity with the FCPS policies, goals and programs

Essential Functions:
This position provides administrative assistance to the Director of Transportation and/or Transportation Manager in the daily operations of the Transportation Department. This individual must possess a high level of skill and experience, along with the ability to work well independently. Reporting directly to the Director of Transportation and/or Transportation Manager, performs the following duties:
Performs a variety of administrative tasks as assigned to meet transportation needs
Maintains proficiency in the use of technology to meet administrative needs and trains others as needed
Assists in overseeing office operations and ensures office is sufficiently staffed
Manages Drug Testing Program
Investigates accidents (responds to accidents, works with local law enforcement/emergency medical personnel and completes paperwork)
Handles incoming two-way radio and telephone calls and assists customers with questions pertaining to routes, stop times, and student conduct
Orders and receives supplies and checks invoices
Processes requisitions, purchase orders, vouchers, and expense reimbursements
Processes and prepares reports as required by MSDE
Provides documentation for internal and external audits
Prepares a wide variety of written materials (correspondence, memos, reports, etc.) for the purpose of documenting, providing written reference, and conveying information
Uses automated systems, including but not limited to PeopleSoft, TSS, Mapnet, Applitrack, website management, etc.
Answers telephone, takes messages, greets visitors, makes appointments, and gives information
Prepares materials for meetings, conferences, travel, and workshops
Assists in scheduling use of facilities
Handles highly confidential system information
Maintains property accountability
Processes and/or prepares applications for new employees for all open positions within the department
Collects monthly data pertaining to department key performance indicators
Serves as a school bus driver as necessary

Other Functions:
Performs other duties as assigned by the Director or Transportation Manager.

Salary:
Support Salary Scale, Grade 12, 12-month position (260 days / 8 hours a day)
Starting Salary $21.39
