Job Description:

The AMOS Summer Camp Director will lead the design, plan, and implementation of K-7th grade science-themed camps. The incumbent will be responsible for the logistics working closely with AMOS staff and managing seasonal counselors to ensure the safety and positive experience for each camper and parent. The Summer Camp Director will report to the Executive Director working closely to ensure effective implementation and communication processes with AMOS staff, seasonal staff, and potential camp students and parents.

Qualifications:

  • 1-2 years’ experience managing a team of 5 +
  • 1-2 years working in a summer camp setting, preferably as a camp director
  • 1-2 years working with children age 5-10, preferably in a camp or outdoor educational setting
  • Tactfulness and customer service mindset in dealing with parents, campers, and other stakeholders
  • Experience with science curriculum development required
  • Experience in coordinating with industry subject matter experts and advisors to develop programs and events
  • Strong background in program and project management
  • Prior classroom teaching experience and knowledge of NC Essential Standards considered a plus
  • Ability to work both independently and as a team
  • Experience with MailChimp and Altru software a plus; ability to learn these systems required
  • Training and experience in Positive Discipline and group and classroom management
  • Current First Aid/CPR certification or the ability to obtain before June 17, 2019

Essential job functions include but are not limited to:

  • Work with AMOS Directors and educators to design and review curricula for all camp sessions
  • Write and edit standard operating procedures for staff, campers, and parents
  • Prepare parent communications using Mailchimp and Altru software
  • Manage the hiring process for camp counselors
  • Design and implement training for all camp counselors
  • Manage registration paperwork including waivers and payment collection
  • Provide leadership each day of camp, managing dropoff and pickup, communicating in person with parents and other caregivers, and assisting camp counselors with behavior management, logistics, and all other aspects of camp
  • Keep daily record of attendance, child pickup/dropoff, incidents, and any other necessary documentation
  • Coordinate camp schedules and work with counselors to prevent schedule conflicts in program areas
  • Manage the health care needs of day campers including checking in medication and coordinating with camp nurse as needed
  • Serve as backup camp counselor in case of absences and during times of classroom management

License:
