The Department of Microbiology and Immunology at University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine invites applications for a Staff Research Associate 3 in the laboratory of Dr. Paul Brett. This position does not provide layoff rights and is contingent upon funding.
This position is that of a highly qualified technician/lab manager operating under the supervision of Dr. Paul Brett. The duties are to 1) purify protein and carbohydrate antigens from bacteria, 2) perform procedures in animals including immunizations and tissue harvests, 3) conduct immune assays to analyze antigen-specific antibody and cellular responses, 4) maintain tissue culture and conduct host cell-bacteria interaction assays, 5) manage day-to-day operations in the laboratory including ordering, receiving, maintaining training records and supplies, and 6) assist with supervision and training of students.
The person who fills this position will learn to perform all the duties listed in their job description and use specialized equipment over time. They should be able to quickly master each duty and independently execute tasks as well as make decisions that reflects their level of responsibility.
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in the required area of specialization and two years of professional research experience either in the field or in a laboratory; OR one year of experience as a Staff Research Associate II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
This position requiredsexperience in microbiological techniques, protein purification, immunological assays, cell culture and biosafety level 2 practices .
This position requires excellent organizational and time management skills.
Proficiency with molecular cloning, working with animals, supervising students, and managing research lab operations would be considered assets.
The typical work schedule is Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm; this is subject to change based on organizational needs.
