Independently reviews work orders. Resolves project installation and maintenance problems by interpreting sketches, drawings, directives, diagrams, communications and computer facility records and technical orders. Installs communication cable, building premise and thin wire to include copper core, single and multimode fiber optical, IOBaseT, and twisted pair wire.
Performs technical cable maintenance and installation actions. Locate and diagnose troubles in cables, splices and terminals using standard test equipment and procedures, such as, volt-ohm meters (analog and digital), fault locators, electronic time-domain reflcctometers and optical time-domain reflectometers.
MS modular splicing machines. Seals completed splices with the appropriate sleeves, splices cases and capsulate Process Base Communication and Computer Systems's work request through the location and marking of cable pathways and Routes through buried and conduit cable systems.
Uses and maintains trade tools and equipment such as wire strippers, wire punch down with 66/110 blades, telephone butt set; drills, wrenches, screw drivers, pliers, socket sets, electlicians utility knife and scissors. Uses manhole hooks, duct rods, gopher poles and fish tapes. Uses Uncam fiber optics kit for the termination of single and multimode fiber. Uses various precision measurement
Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work environment. Uses and assures proper fit of required safety equipment and clothing. Performs clean-up and general housekeeping duties such as cleaning equipment, sweeping, straightening, and lining up tools and other property in
the assigned area.
Employee may perform other additional duties as assigned on a daily, weekly, monthly or quarterly basis. Maintains records and documents actions.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS FOR WG:
The following summarizes the qualification standard for this position found in the Job Qualifications System for Trades and Labor Occupations (Handbook X-118C) http://www.opm.gov/qualifications/x-118c/Tabindx.asp . To qualify, there is no specific length of training or experience required; however, you must be able to demonstrate enough experience in your application to show you possess sufficient job elements to provide communication infrastructure via copper, fiber and antenna to telecommunication systems; install and maintain archaic to state of the art transmission infrastructure utilizing radio frequency, electrical and optical methods and provide technical advice on communication designs of existing and new telecommunications infrastructure
1. Ability to do the work of Telecommunications Mechanic without more than normal supervision.
2. Knowledge of the theory and instruments (electrical electronic) used in shop and trade practices of telecommunications mechanical trade.
3. Knowledge of technical practices associated with telecommunications mechanical trade.
4. Ability to use electrical, engineered and installation drawings associated with the telecommunications mechanical trade.
5. Ability to use and maintain hand tools and a variety of electronic test equipment associated with the telecommunications mechanical trade.
6. Skill to troubleshoot and repair electrical and electronic equipment associated with the telecommunications mechanical trade.
