Wastewater Management is part of the City and County of Denver Department of Public Works’ Utilities Division. Wastewater Management plans, designs, constructs, operates and maintains Denver's sanitary sewer and storm drainage systems and is responsible for more than 1,500 miles of sanitary sewer and more than 800 miles of storm drainage underground lines and pipes. High quality cost effective service is provided by using a team approach and recognizing that customers and employees are paramount to the Division's success.

The Wastewater Management Construction Operations - Design Team has an opening for an Engineer. This is an excellent opportunity to use your skills or develop skills in storm, water quality and sanitary design engineering in a newly formed team within Construction Operations. If you like to break trail, this may be a great fit for you.

We’re seeking a collaborative Engineer who is adaptable to frequent changes with a dynamic workload, and who also enjoys working on a variety of diverse projects. This position allows you to be innovative and on average, you’ll work on two to three wastewater maintenance related projects every month. You will primarily be in the office with some field work related to design work and inspection. The main responsibilities are:

Plan Review – For Maintainability
Hydraulic & Hydrologic modeling and design
Sanitary sewer modeling and design
Construction Document Creation using AutoCad Civil3D
Water Quality Design
Job duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

Perform intermediate level professional engineering work on a variety of routine engineering projects and assignments, which includes reviewing construction plans and designs for maintainability, providing technical engineering support and guidance, coordinating project phases, and r ecommends solutions to routine engineering issues and problems
Work with stakeholders both internal and external to the city, which potentially includes working with intergovernmental organizations, interacting with utility companies, other city agencies and departments, elected officials, and potentially works with consultants and contractors
Assist with and prepares project cost estimates
Works with stakeholders on project designs, concepts, and time-frames for project completion
Prepare project budgets in the planning and design phase, monitors project budgets and expenditures throughout construction, and ensure project d eliverables stay on-time and target, ensures quality control, and the project stays on budget
Perform project management work which includes monitoring overall construction and design, tracking project schedules, overseeing costs and expenses, ensuring compliance and conformance to engineering standards within contract specifications, and confers with management on risks, c osts, and allocation of resources within the various phase of the project
Participate in design and construction coordination meetings to ensure timely approval and completion of projects
Review and evaluate wastewater and water quality design plans for maintainability.
Prepare a variety of engineering studies, correspondences, and reports, for wastewater and storm drainage projects
Review projects to ensures maintainability, monitors projects for quality, identifies strategies to overcome barriers, ensures materials comply with project specifications, reviews calculations, and performs field and site inspections
The target hiring salary for this position is between $72,414.00 - $94,138.00, depending on education, experience and qualifications. The full pay range for this Job Classification is currently $72,414.00 - $115,862.00.

1-2 years of Urban water quality design
3 years or more in H&H modeling and design
3 years or more in Sanitary modeling and design

Education: Bachelor's Degree in Engineering
Experience: Qualifications: Four (4) years’ experience as an entry level Engineer
Licensures / Certifications: Requires a valid Driver's License at the time of application
Requires registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) by the Colorado State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers at the time of application

O r requires registration as an Architect by the Colorado State Board of Registration at the time of application

Registration in another state will be accepted in lieu of this requirement, provided that the applicant has Colorado registration at completion of probation

Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment

Equivalency: No substitution of experience for education is permitted
Additional appropriate education may be substituted for experience requirements
