Overview:
Ultra Electronics Ocean Systems is searching for a highly motivated and detail oriented Mechanical Engineer to support the development of a new Radar system. Working closely with RF, Electrical, Software, Electrical and System Engineers, and the Mechanical Engineer will guide the development of the Radar System through initial design, through finalization of the design, and finalization, and finally through the integration and test events. At Ocean Systems, the Mechanical Engineer will have the opportunity to guide the development and selection of key technologies for the Navy and will have the opportunity to work with critical Department of Defense platforms. The Mechanical Engineer will have the opportunity to contribute to key strategic approaches for future proposals, IR&D, and additional development activities.

Job Description:
Develop mechanical designs for the next generation Radar system
Work closely with a team to ensure compatibility of system components
Perform mechanical trade-offs for system design
Perform structural analysis to ensure environmental requirements are met
Develop drawing package to MIL-STD-31000 requirements for reproduction of the system
Develops mechanical and electromechanical products by studying customer requirements; researching test requirements, manufacturing, assembly methods, and materials; soliciting review/observations from appropriate people
Takes direction from product manager, works closely with electrical engineers and hardware designers, quality assurance and manufacturing

Required Skills:
BS Degree in Mechanical Engineering discipline with minimum 4 years’ experience, or MS with 2 years of experience
Ability to obtain appropriate security clearance. Only U.S. citizens are normally granted security clearances.

Desired Skills:
Experience with radar systems or similar signal processing systems
Knowledge of Navy platforms or common Navy platform interfaces
Understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
Understanding of drawing practices per ASME Y14.100
Knowledge of PLM or similar Content Management System
Background of sheet metal and machined part 3D CAD model designs
Ability to estimate amount of time needed for design activities, and incorporate product cost during the initial design phase
Experience in electronic packaging of components in enclosures
Significant experience with developing 3D models, Autodesk Inventor preferred, models for multi-subsystem complex systems
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Experience performing temperature analysis for design of complex systems
Understanding of design for passing environmental qualification requirements such as MIL-STD-901 shock, vibration, and humidity
Experienced with following a structured design release process and involving appropriate members of the team at each step of the process
Experience working with a team to jointly develop a system during all phases of the system development life cycle
