The Dubois County Health Department is seeking an Administrative Director due to retirement of the current administrator in October 2018.

The Dubois County Health Department employs 12 full-time employees and operates with an annual budget of approximately $925,000. The staff is divided into nursing, vital records, foods and environmental divisions. The administrator is responsible for supervising and administering operations and programs within the department.

Minimum qualifications include a Bachelors Degree in public health, nursing or a related field. The successful candidate will have a working knowledge of and ability to make practical application of standard policies and procedures of environmental, food sanitation, public health nursing, vital records and accounting operations. Salary will be commensurate with qualification and experience.

Job Title: Administrative Director

Reports to: Health Officer/Board of Health

JOB SUMMARY

This position is responsible for organizing, coordinating, budgeting, administering, supervising, and evaluating all duties and responsibilities of the Dubois County Health Department.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides administration to all Health Department programs
  • Prepares, plans and manages budgets and grants
  • Manages human resources functions including hiring/dismissal of employees, job evaluations and maintaining of service records
  • Represents the Health Department on various community boards, coalitions and councils
  • Acts as incident commander in accordance with NIMS
  • Serves as the Public Information Officer for the Health Department
  • Participates in preparedness trainings and exercises
  • Prepares, conducts and documents meetings of the Dubois County Board of Health
  • Meets with the Dubois County Commissioners, County Council and County Attorney as needed
  • Has knowledge and exhibits compliance with HIPAA requirements
  • Oversees maintenance of the Health Department office and building
  • Participates in accreditation activities as assigned
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Health Officer/Board of Health

QUALIFICATIONS

  • B.S. Degree in Environment Health, Nursing or a related field
  • Additional education in CPR, Blood-borne pathogens and NIMS preferred but may be obtained upon employment
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in public health or related field preferred

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Occasional lifting and/or moving of up to 40 pounds
  • Visual acuity
  • Handling and disposal of infectious and bio-hazardous waste
