The Autonomous Maritime & Mission Systems (AM&MS) business area is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to support the development of subsea mechanical systems including structures, robotic mechanisms, electro-mechanical & hydraulic powered actuation systems for Unmanned Underwater Vehicles (UUVs), Payloads, and associated equipment and rugged electronics packaging.
Mechanical design (including electronics packaging); structural and thermal analysis, fabrication and assembly.
Perform shop follow activities, implement Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) guidelines, field integration, and delivery.
Perform tolerance analyses via GD&T ASME Y14.5.
Structural and thermal analysis using Finite Element Analysis (FEA) software and CAE tools to include: underwater electro-optical connectors, pressure tank adapters, protective sheet metal shields, enclosures, seals, etc.
Must possess the ability to work well with customer(s) and focus on customer satisfaction.
Experience with instrumentation and hydrostatic testing of pressure vessels to validate analysis results and demonstrate system safety is a plus.
Prefer domain knowledge in the design and development of underwater structural systems.
Ideal candidate will have experience in one or more of the following:
Generation of detailed designs & performance of detailed structural analysis.
Material selection, mechanism design and structures design.
Integration & testing the mechanical systems.
Resolving issues & provide innovative solutions to challenges in the system's environment.
Preparation of analysis/engineering gate review packages.
Modeling, developing drawings using CATIA.
Analyze customer/system requirements to develop basic architectural approaches/detailed specifications for various products.
Develop high-level, detailed designs consistent with requirements/specifications.
Validate designs through various methods of review/test/analysis.
Support supplier management with make/buy recommendations and other technical services of limited scope.
Provide engineering support throughout the life cycle of the product.
Investigate emerging technologies to develop concepts for future product designs to meet projected requirements.
Detailed structural analysis of heavily-loaded structures and perform iterative optimization and determination of the mechanical architecture of subsea pressure vessels and associated structures to minimize system weight.
Analysis techniques will include linear and non-linear finite element methods (Nastran, and/or Patran) including stress and stability (buckling).
Pressure Vessels are critical to the success of ATP in that the pressure vessel design is a significant contributor to overall system performance and cost.
Candidate will be required to follow established analysis standards and acceptance criteria and specific guidelines for program implementation to ensure system performance requirements are met.
Resolve structural issues and provide innovative solutions to structural challenges in the subsea environment.
You will interface directly with customer experts to demonstrate technical credibility and enhance customer relations. Occasional travel to customer, teammate and other Boeing sites may be required.

This position requires an active Top Secret U.S. Security Clearance (TS/SCI). (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active.)

Team experience (Agile work environment, formal technical presentations, formal customer presentations).
Knowledge of electronic interfaces, undersea equipment environmental requirements.
Experience in design and analysis.
Bachelor's 14 or more years' experience, Master's with 12 or more years' experience or PhD with 9 or more years' experience. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
