Applications are now being accepted from qualified staff for part-time hourly Paraprofessional positions for the current school year in Saint Paul Public Schools Department of Alternative Education (DAE) Extended Day for Learning (EDL) programs.
Most EDL programs run October – May and offer academic support and applied academic courses after school.

Report to Site Administrator, EDL Site Leader/Coordinator, and/or DAE Assistant Director.
Hold a current SPPS Paraprofessional position-EA or TA.
An AA, AS, AAS (or higher) degree, OR
Two years of post-secondary coursework (60 semester credits or 90 quarter credits) from an accredited institution of higher education which are applicable toward a Bachelor’s degree, with courses related to education or other related field, OR
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Basic skills in reading, writing, and mathematics.
Basic skills in typing and duplicating may be required for some positions.
Good oral and written communication skills.
Ability to develop good relationships with students and staff.
Ability to be sensitive to the needs of others.
Ability to relate to students with warmth, friendliness and understanding.
Lifting may be required for some Paraprofessional positions.
Responsible work and attendance ethic.
Work in classrooms assisting teachers with students.
Prepare, duplicate, and/or assemble materials for teachers.
Provide general office help, may include attendance entry into CAMPUS.
Assist with student transportation including walking lines, adult pickup, and/or bus loading after EDL dismissal.
Attend EDL training and staff meeting, as needed.
Other duties as assigned by EDL Site Leader or DAE Assistant Director.

Out-of-District and noncurrent SPPS staff must complete the SPPS employment paperwork prior to working for EDL.
Appointments are for the current EDL session only.
Site Leaders are expected to work the entire EDL session.
Employment in the EDL program is at will.
Compensation & Hours
Compensation is the paraprofessional’s current SPPS hourly rate as specified in the labor agreement with Saint Paul Public Schools.
EDL paraprofessionals will be compensated based on staffing allocations, per site. Full time: 1.75 hours per session; Part time: 1 hour per session.
Additional compensation for walking lines/bus aides will be based on actual student contact time in 0.25 hour increments, pending approval from DAE Assistant Director.
Overtime hours worked must be approved by the DAE Assistant Director.
Compensation for training is at the contracted workshop rate of pay specified in the labor agreement with the Saint Paul Public Schools.
All EDL employees are paid biweekly.
Extended Day for Learning (EDL) staff are paid only for hours worked on days the program is in session.
Criminal Background Investigation - Criminal Background investigation will be completed as a condition of hire for all new employees and for former employees who have not been employed by the District for more than six months.
