Job Overview

Neonatal Nurse Practitioners (NNP) are certified nurse practitioners who are prepared to practice across the wellness-illness continuum, providing primary, acute, chronic, and critical care to neonates, infants, and toddlers through age 2. In collaboration with other health care providers, NNP’s provide initial, ongoing, and comprehensive care, including taking complete histories; providing physical examinations and diagnosing, treating, and managing patients with acute and chronic illnesses and diseases. This includes ordering, performing,supervising, and interpreting laboratory and imaging studies; prescribing medication and durable medical equipment; and making appropriate referrals for patients and families. In addition, NNPs select and perform clinically indicated advanced diagnostic and therapeutic invasive procedures. NNP care also includes health promotion, disease prevention, health education, and counseling.

Scope/Organizational Responsibility

Contacts: c - Most often externally with patients and families, involves coordination with other departments; exchanges require explanation & interpretation and involves matters possibly sensitive in nature.
Financial Accountability: a -Responsible for personal use of resources, supplies and materials, tracking personal spending and submitting accurate expense reports.
Impact of Decisions: a -Short term decisions, impact usually limited to task related activities and immediate colleagues.
Judgment: Defines priorities for functional area, directly and indirectly managing resources, makes decisions and sets direction.


General Work Experience: At least 2 years RN experience in a level III/IV NICU.Basic computer skills. Experience with EMR preferred. Excellent customer service, written or spoken communication skills. Knowledge of medical terminology. Demonstrated ability to prioritize in a fast paced environment. Ability to work independently and in a team.
Required Education/Field of Study: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with the following: Master of Science in Nursing.
Required License/Certification - BLS for Healthcare Providers / CPR
Required License/Certification - Neo Resusc Prog/Neo Adv Life
Required License/Certification - Neonatal Nurse Practitioner
Required License/Certification - Registered Nurse
