The National Account Director, U.S. Market Access and Reimbursement is responsible for ensuring national payer and channel customers provide appropriate patient access to Alexion’s medicines.

This role reports to the Executive Director, Market Access and Reimbursement

Job Duties & Responsibilities

Develops and implements access strategies for assigned commercial/government payer and channel (i.e. Specialty Pharmacy, Specialty Distributor) customers that result in appropriate patient access to Alexon’s medicines
Leads all negotiations with assigned commercial/government payer and channel accounts
Coordinates the execution of the brand access strategies with the teams responsible for regional affiliates or custom clients of National health plans and PBMs
Maintains relationships with senior managed care medical and pharmacy executives based on an expert understanding of the customer’s organizational structure and strategic priorities
Leverages approved resources and internal subject matter experts (HEOR, Medical, etc.) to communicate the value of our medicines to payer and channel customers
Maintains partnerships with senior managed care medical and pharmacy executives based on an expert understanding of the customer’s organizational structure and strategic priorities
Educates sales force on brand payer coverage policies to support their strategic planning
Develops solutions for the field force and access team with any customer-specific product access or reimbursement issues
Coordinates with Alexion Funding Specialists to assist in resolution of reimbursement/coverage issues related to assigned payer accounts

  • Essential Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant area of study
10+ combined years experience in the biopharmaceutical industry
5+ years experience in an account management role with responsibility for national payer customers
Expert knowledge of U.S. managed markets including commercial and government payers as well as key channel segments (specialty pharmacy and distribution, home infusion, etc.)
Demonstrated success in securing appropriate coverage for specialty medicines covered under the medical benefit
Strong understanding of reimbursement methodologies utilized by commercial and government payers under the medical and pharmacy benefits
Established relationships with national payer and channel customers
Excellent communications skills
Clinical, technical and scientific knowledge and aptitude in complex disease state
Travel requirements: Willing to travel at least 60% of the time including significant overnight and weekend travel
Valid driver’s license and clean driving record

Experience securing access for rare disease medicines
Experience securing rapid coverage for launches of new products and indications
