Work location is 118 E. Riverside Drive, Austin, TX 78704. We are located on the Lady Bird Lake walking path, with access to the hike and bike trails.

Engineering Assistant I - B17 Salary Range $36,976.00 - $58,399.00

Engineering Assistant II - B18 Salary Range $39,521.00 - $64,449.00

Engineering Assistant III - B19 Salary Range $42,244.00 - $68,960.00

This position requires up to 25% of overnight travel.

General Description

All Levels

Work involves job rotation, training and continuing education in traffic engineering/operations related activities including design, speed zoning, traffic signals, illumination, traffic management, traffic safety, temporary traffic control, pavement markings, and signing with the intent to actively pursue engineering licensing/registration through appropriate training and exams. Engineering work activity is supervised by a licensed professional engineer who has authority for final approval of all projects. Work requires some contact with local governmental representatives, engineering contractors and private entities.

NOTE: All employees classified as Engineering Assistants are required to participate in the Engineering Assistant Career Development program. Participation in the Engineering Assistant Career Development Program (EACDP) requires that employees sign a Program Agreement, which outlines employee responsibilities and service time commitment.

Engineering Assistant I

Performs entry-level engineering work. Employees at this level perform assignments following specific instructions and are subject to frequent review by the immediate supervisor.

Engineering Assistant II

Performs engineering Work. Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details.

Engineering Assistant III

Performs engineering work. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.

Duties

The essential duties for this job include:
Actively prepares for professional engineering licensing/registration through appropriate training and exams and completion/maintenance of required documentation.
Applies engineering principles, methods and techniques to a wide variety of traffic engineering/operations-related activities.
Participates in Career Development for the Engineering Assistants program which includes job rotation, training and continuing education.
Collects engineering data at project sites.
Performs engineering-related duties in the field of transportation engineering, using automated roadway programs and computer-assisted design and engineering systems.
Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
Engineering Assistant I

All of the above plus:
Assists in research and problem solving of engineering-related problems and assists in documenting findings.
Assists with traffic analysis and data collections.
Engineering Assistant II

All of the above plus:
Assists in research and problem solving of engineering-related problems and assists in documenting findings.
Assists with traffic analysis and data collections.
Assists in reviewing traffic engineering schematics, plans, specifications and estimates (PS&E).
Engineering Assistant III

All of the above plus:
Performs research and problem solving of traffic engineering-related problems and documents findings.
Performs traffic analysis and data collection.
Creates detailed reviews of traffic engineering schematics, plans, specification and estimates (PS&E).

This is a Safety Impact position and will be subject to random drug testing.
All employees classified as Engineering Assistants are required to participate in the EA program. Participation in the Engineering Assistant Career Development Program ( EACDP) requires that employees sign a Program Agreement, which outlines employee responsibilities and service time commitment. Failure to comply with all terms of the Program Agreement will result in reclassification.
