Learning & Development Lead - Procurement

This is a key Operational Excellence (OE) leadership team position, accountable for the design and implementation of a Learning & Development strategy across Procurement. This role reflects the importance of uplifting Procurement’s capability in order to meet the evolving demands of its stakeholders, as well as the importance of retaining, motivating and developing our talent. The job holder will act as a true thought leader to the CPO and Procurement Leadership Team (PLT), but be equally able and motivated to translate their vision into meaningful delivery in a manner which is relevant and accessible to the entire Procurement network totalling over 430 staff, across 30+ countries worldwide. There will be a relentless focus on continuous improvement to ensure that Procurement’s approach to L&D keeps apace with the evolving role that Procurement plays within AstraZeneca, and also embraces new learning channels and individuals changing preferences to how they learn and develop.
You will report directly into the Head of Operational Excellence and form part of the OE Leadership Team. You will not only be functionally accountable for Professional Capabilities, but also be expected to actively contribute to the structure, style and delivery of the wider OE function. You will act as an ambassador of OE, confident and capable of talking about any element of OE’s service catalogue, and able to represent the function when engaging with any Procurement or Business stakeholders. You will be highly collaborative in your approach, able to demonstrate leadership and strategic vision that builds strong credibility in your own capability and of the function.
You will have a visible passion for Learning & Development, and at all times lead by example in your approach.
In this role, you will own and execute the Learning & Development strategy within Procurement, designing and agreeing the strategy with the Procurement Leadership Team which will support the achievement of an uplift in Procurement capability.
You will also create programmes for identifying and nurturing talent within Procurement, an induction programme for all new starters that truly sets them up for success as well as creating an infrastructure to enable tailored development programmes for high potential staff
You will update and maintain the core capability matrix for the Procurement function and design and implement a process for ensuring that all Procurement staff complete an annual core capability matrix. You will also introduce a curriculum of learning to support the upskilling of everyone across the function.
You will be innovative and utilise a range of strategies, delivery methods and technologies within L&D to accommodate different learning styles, staff engagement, geographical spread and varying development requirements.
Ensure that there is a balanced scorecard to measure capability uplifts and embed learning and development within the staff’s annual objective setting.
You will need to engage with third parties to gain insight into best in class learning and training deployment methods as well as engaging with broader AZ L&D and HR Network to identify opportunities to leverage synergies, share best practices & scale impact of programmes currently in existence. You will also benchmark the current AstraZeneca approach against peer companies and provide market insight to the PLT to shape future strategy.
You will also manage and report on the L&D Procurement budget and manage the administration of the L&D Programme including the creation of course materials, logistics/ resources and maintaining L&D records.
Master’s degree – equivalent experience will be taken into consideration
Recognised qualification in L&D
Strong experience as a learning and development specialist within a complex global enterprise
Able to demonstrate up to date knowledge of theory and good practice in key areas of Learning & Development, particularly management development and talent management.
Track record in delivering successful L&D projects and supporting major organisational change;
Experience of, and commitment to, continuous organisational improvement and the ability to act as a change agent
Demonstrated ability to set and manage priorities, resources, performance targets and project initiatives in a global and regional environment
Ability to define, influence and lead change across an enterprise.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills as well as proven negotiation, collaboration and interpersonal leadership skills
Capacity to embrace change and quickly adapt to new situations, changes in direction, and altering priorities
Ability to influence strategically and persuade tactfully, to obtain desired outcomes while maintaining effective, positive, organizational relationships
Advanced organizational problem solving, consensus building and conflict resolution skills
High level of proficiency in the use of Microsoft products including Project, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, SharePoint and Outlook.
