HPC Senior Scientific Parallel Programmer

Position Description

Secret clearance required.

Scientific programming tasks are required to assist an ionospheric researcher for the development of a 3-D multi-fluid electrodynamic model of the ionosphere/thermosphere environment. The effort will require direct collaboration with senior researchers on the desired model interface, scientific equations to be solved, and numerical algorithms.

Will transition existing research-level code to more efficient numerical algorithms, develop new code, develop tools for visualizing and analyzing model output, and document all code and procedures. Work will include writing code, running code, testing code reliability and performance, identifying problems and interpreting the results for verification purposes in collaboration with the researcher.

Will participate in the hands-on full development life-cycle (SDLC), including technical solution requirements, design, development, integration, testing, and operational deployment of scientific software. Additional responsibilities include the reviewing, evaluating, and analyzing design interfaces. Will prepare, review, and edit technical interface documentation, specifications, test plans, and procedures.

Required Skills

10+ years of hands-on programming experience with C /C++, parallel programming, and Python.

Must have knowledge and experience working in the Unix/Linux development environment developing numerical computational analytical software.

Must have the knowledge of real-time processing systems and concepts related to operating systems, kernels, user space, and concurrency. Familiarity with Fortran programming, knowledge of OO (Object Oriented), and experience using HPC (High Performance Computing) including OpenMP, GPU, and/or CUDA framework.

Excellent oral, written communication skills, and interpersonal skills are required. Knowledge and experience with developing and implementing algorithms for solving fluid equations is a big plus. Familiarity with secure programming and knowledge regarding information assurance practices is a plus.

Secret clearance required.

Must be a US Citizen and able to pass a background investigation to enter the applicable government facility.

BS in physical science, computer science, related discipline, or equivalent. MS preferred.
