Trident Maritime Systems is an ISO certified leader in the Navy, Marine, and Off-Shore markets providing innovative Electro-Mechanical, HVAC/R, Fire Suppression, and Electric Propulsion Systems. We are currently expanding our staff of professionals to support and accelerate business growth. This is a temporary position for approximately 6 months. The Automation Systems Engineer will be responsible for the automation system design, including functional, physical and electrical components in accordance with customer requirements. Designs will include electrical schematics of control consoles, remote I/O enclosures, generator controls, interconnect diagrams, functional diagrams, PLC programming, component configuration, technical manuals and test procedures. The Automation Systems Engineer will be expected to be a subject matter expert and be able to guide/mentor junior level engineers on staff.


  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering from an accredited university or college (Masters level or higher preferred)
  • Familiarity with Regulatory bodies such as ABS, USCG, DNV, NEC, etc.
  • Knowledge of IEEE 45
  • Experience programming PLCs (such as Siemens, Rockwell, etc.)
  • Experience designing HMI screens (such as Wonderware, WinCC, FactoryTalk, etc.)
  • Knowledge of software configuration control
  • Experience with design of electrical schematics of control circuits and interconnect diagrams
  • Ability to specify cable types for our scope of supply to our customers
  • Experience using AutoCad
  • 5+ years of Automation Systems (shipboard preferred) experience is key
  • U.S. Citizen


  • Program PLCs to meet customer functional specifications while in accordance with industry standards such as IEC 61131
  • Develop testing procedures for automation systems
  • Perform factory acceptance testing with customer and regulatory body in attendance
  • Work with QA, Production personnel, and Field Technicians concerning automation systems
  • Ability to work with suppliers on function of system for components selection
  • Interpret customer specifications and drawings as they apply to our scope of supply
  • Support Business Development with technical input and review into proposals for potential new business
  • Interface with customers, sales and field installation services personnel.
