The Specimen Processor oversees the in-house handling of laboratory specimens, preparation and transportation of specimens to vendor laboratories and problem resolution/tracking of pending tests. Responsible for day-to-day problem solving concerning specimens sent to vendor laboratories. Maintains documentation of problems and resolutions. Identifies/addresses recurrent problems or brings to attention of supervisor. Notifies clinician of problems, if necessary, and calls patients when instructed to do so. Performs Point of Care Testing on patients; classified as moderately complex testing, utilizing a test kit or lab instrument. Performs preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and calibration of the device. Has knowledge of reagent stability and storage. Follows quality control procedures. Performs Proficiency Testing. Understands factors influencing test results. Provides valid patient test results with QC before reporting. Understand the testing procedure. Follows procedure in reporting test values.
Education: High School graduate or equivalent plus additional college courses in Biology and Chemistry required. Associates degree or equivalent preferred.
Skills and Experience: Minimum of one year lab experience required. Excellent customer service skills and experience as well as computer proficiency a must.
