ASEA is looking for a talented and enthusiastic Associate Research Scientist to support product substantiation as a member of the global Regulatory Affairs Department. This is a technical position that evaluates and reviews scientific literature to create and maintain a database of support information related to the substantiation of product claims, per domestic and international requirements. These activities require the ability to assess and identify the required set of documentation to support substantiation. The substantiation may include support from scientifically credible, published information, clinical test results, expert opinion, etc., for both ingredients and finished products in the food, nutritional supplement and cosmetic / skin care product space. This person will develop company-wide standards and SOPs for product claim substantiation globally. As a technical expert, this individual may provide support as a scientific advisor to the greater cross-functional teams and facilitate introduction of new technologies and functional ingredients to maximize product performance and market positioning. He/she may serve as an expert scientific speaker to field associates and regulatory bodies throughout the world.
Establish scientific product claims substantiation and documentation (via literature evaluation and clinical study review) per global regulatory requirements-based efficacy and dosage rationale. Create and maintain a database housing the information
Review scientific literature and maintain technical database to support claims substantiation for regulatory, R&D and other business units
Monitors formula changes, label revisions, and marketing material to assure claims substantiation and compliance with domestic and international requirements
Provide guidance for claims that are compliant with current scientific evidence, expert opinion and regulatory standards
Perform reviews on marketing, educational and product related material
Review literature, provide support and recommendations for possible new claims for existing and new product development
Support any in-house or third-party testing protocols to aid in substantiation
Conduct statistical analyses, interpret test results, and present both verbal and written communication of results and conclusions to teams and management
Perform additional duties as required
BS/MS/Ph.D in Chemistry, Biology, Life Sciences, or related field
4+ years of research-backed product claims support experience including experience with in-depth product research utilizing scientific and technical publications for substantiation of nutrition and cosmetic claims.
Ability to review, analyze and interpret study findings from various data sets a scientific publications
Ability to manage projects/tasks in a timely manner with minimal direction.
Experience with understanding sound clinical product testing procedures and industry supported claims substantiation methodology for skin and nutritional supplement products
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
Consumer goods experience, preferably the direct selling industry for nutritional supplements, foods and cosmetic products
Ability to work independently and on own initiative
Technical skills (knowledge and practical experience) in human biology, biochemistry, histology, statistical analysis, and cell culture methodologies.
Strong verbal and written communication skills to either technical or lay audiences
