Energy Circle, a Maine-based company specializing in digital marketing solutions for the energy efficiency community - HVAC & home performance contractors, green builders, energy auditors, etc. - seeks a full-time Junior Web Developer.

Energy Circle provides lead generation through digital marketing on an advanced web platform designed & developed for the better building sector. We measure our performance in the success of our clients and their impact on the world: our customers have delivered more than $1 Billion in energy efficiency retrofits since we started. As a culture, we’re a small, flat organization: you’ll work directly with our CEO and collaborate with the entire team.

The Junior Web Developer position builds high performance websites using EC’s Panopoly-based distribution. This position includes site building, theming, content migration, and responsive CSS coding. You’ll work with our in-house development team, information architects, digital marketing strategists, graphic designers, and content strategists to build responsive sites with best-in-class conversion optimization and exceptional UI design. In addition to client site building, the role will support the EC team with general technical expertise, specific projects such as integrating third party API’s, the development of new features and functionality within the EC marketing platform, technical troubleshooting, and maintenance of existing sites. We’re a committed open source shop working primarily in Drupal, and occasionally on WordPress.

  • This position is located at our home base in Portland, Maine. Strong preference will be given to candidates local to the Southern Maine area, however, for the right person we will consider remote candidates in the New England area: Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Connecticut, Vermont, and Rhode Island.
Requirements

2-3 years work experience in web development - preferably with Drupal.
Bachelor's Degree in a technical discipline or equivalent experience
Experience in advanced site building in Drupal 7 & 8
Design and Development of websites using responsive design and coding techniques
Strong HTML / CSS skills
Experienced with Version Control (git), SCSS, jQuery, PHP
Fluent with command line
Familiarity with various server environments - and understanding of FTP / SFTP / SSH
Excellent collaboration skills and enthusiasm for the web development process
Outstanding communication skills, including the ability to present technical concepts to non-technical clients

NICE-TO-HAVE

Experience implementing external libraries, JavaScript
Experience creating themes from scratch for an open source CMS (such as Drupal)
Experience with Panopoly
Experience building / developing websites for Wordpress
Familiarity with Drush (command line utility for Drupal)
Experience working with and implementing 3rd party API integrations
Server and Database management / maintenance experience - Pantheon a big plus!
