About the Role
As Sr. Mechanical Engineer within the Harman Luxury Audio business unit, you will provide support in new product design, development and introduction by using computer-aided design systems to create assembly and detail drawings based rough sketches or from general engineering and design information, provided verbally or from notes.
As a segment of the Lifestyle audio group division, the Luxury Audio BU concentrates on high-end/high performance loudspeakers and electronics.
You will report to the Director of Engineering and PMO for Luxury Audio.
What You Will Do
Create conceptual designs with a view to fulfilling the customer objectives and Harman requirements
Participate in and contribute to design and feasibility reviews with customers, suppliers and Harman personnel
Design and detail parts and assemblies (including tooling files) of various speaker/electronic systems using SolidWorks 3D CAD to established standards and procedures
Create, review and analyze prototype components through the use of SLA or other fast-proto methods
Prepare 2D drawings from the 3D CAD models for QC inspection, graphics, literature and web publishing
Create and assist in the creation of Bills of Materials
Create Color/Materials/Finish specifications
Ensure that specifications (3D models and 2D CAD) adhere to industry standards such as ASME Y14.5
Participate in product development design reviews internally with development teams
Perform liaison activities with outside organizations (customer, contractors, vendors, etc.) to obtain information and advise on technical problems
Perform dimensional inspection of incoming parts and assemblies and reports results to vendors, PM and other functional teams
Develop mechanical design data, sketches, notes and calculations
Set up and maintain CAD files for new projects from commencement to completion.
Store drawings electronically for later use; Modify existing drawings and complete Engineering Change Notices in accurate and thorough manner
Prepare technical reports and presentations
Provide post-production design support
Meet all project deadlines as assigned
What You Need
BSME, or the equivalent (to a degree) of an appropriate related technical experience and education.
Minimum of 7 years of experience in Mechanical Engineering.
Minimum of 3 years of experience using SolidWorks and AUTOCAD.
Working knowledge of ASME Y14.5 standards and knowledge of dimensional metrology.
Knowledge and experience in manufacturing database software as related to Bills of Materials.
What is Nice to Have
Master’s degree in mechanical engineering.
Experience working in the audio industry with loudspeakers and electronics.
Must have good math skills.
Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail.
