The American Museum of Natural History (AMNH) in New York City is one of the premier science, research and cultural institutions in the country. The American Museum of Natural History is seeking a part-time Youth Initiatives Digital Educator to co-teach science courses for New York City youth in on-site museum programs. Courses are for middle school and high school aged children, and can take many different formats, including a 12-hour Friday afternoon course, a 24-hour after-school research course that meets twice a week and is co-taught with a scientist, a 30-hour middle school institute that runs in the summer and over vacation breaks, and numerous different courses that run on weekends.

The Digital Educator will also be responsible for maintaining and growing our digital resources (e.g., computers, mobile devices, 3D printers, AR/VR devices), as well as recommending emerging technology with educational potential. This also includes working collaboratively with Youth Initiatives staff to troubleshoot issues reported by faculty and students.
The Digital Educator will also collaborate with and coach the faculty in the use of instructional technologies to promote teaching and learning.

The position will report directly to and will be supervised by the Senior Manager of Curriculum and Teaching.

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in education, science, or technology
Must have demonstrable experience with self-learning new digital tools and programs
Experience working with urban youth is required.

Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree in education, science or technology a plus.
Experience creating educational activities designed to teach students the skills necessary to use various technology is preferred.
Experience co-teaching considered a plus.
Experience working with 3D printers considered a plus.
Experience with Skyrim and Sculptris considered a plus.
Ideal candidates must be available to work select Saturdays and Sundays, and when working on weekdays, be available to teach until 6:30pm.
