TITLE: Preop/Recovery Room Nurse
RESPONSIBLE TO: Director of Nursing
QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience: Previous Preop or Recovery Room experience or Acute Care experience
Education: Must be a Registered Nurse and hold a license in this State, or must be an LVN supervised by an RN
Must have current ACLS Certification
JOB DUTIES:
1. Receives patient from OR. Makes assessment on each patient at admission and discharge and records this information on Recovery Room record.
2. Close observation and monitoring of the post-op patient by taking vital signs, EKG monitoring, oximetry readings and documentation of vital signs on Recovery Room records.
3. Identifies arrhythmias by constant monitoring and interpreting of EKG’s as indicated and provides nursing intervention as per physician’s orders.
4. Administers medications, IV’s and Rx’s and maintains records regarding dispensing of same. Observes patient’s reaction to medications, IV’s and Rx’s and acts appropriately when untoward reactions occur.
5. Performs or assists physician in performance of non-sterile and sterile dressing changes and other procedures.
6. Responsible for assuring patient that he or she is not left alone in Recovery Area.
7. Post-op teaching of patient, if necessary, and discharge of patient.
8. Responsible for making sure patient has follow-up appointment scheduled before being discharged. Assists staff with post-op telephone calls as needed.
9. Provides immediate respiratory assistance or support in emergency situations, including use of AMBU bag and administration of CPR and venipuncture.
10. Checking, maintaining and knowledge of CRASH cart.
11. Recognizes and utilizes safety precautions and procedures.
12. Remains familiar with equipment and supplies, their location, function and upkeep. Restocks unit with supplies when necessary.
13. Maintains a comfortable, orderly, clean and safe environment for the Recovery Area.
