Position Summary

This is a part-time, 19 hours/week, civilian position responsible for background investigation and verification of information provided by employment applicants, business license applicants, and applicants for any other licenses requiring a background investigation pursuant to Elmhurst Municipal Ordinance prior to issuance.

Illustrative Position Accountabilities:
Conducts background investigations and verifications on applicants for employment with the City of Elmhurst as police officer, firefighter, cashier, etc.
Conducts background investigations and verifications on applicants for business licenses or any other licenses pursuant to requirements of Elmhurst Municipal Ordinance.
Interviews applicants and/or references and prepares comprehensive written reports on the qualifications and/or fitness of applicants for the duties required.
Performs other investigative duties as assigned.
Critical Mental/Physical Requirements
Ability to perform many different functions simultaneously.
Ability to analyze problems and identify solutions.
Ability to navigate criminal justice databases including a working knowledge of the LEADS system and Records Management Systems.
Position Qualifications/Experience
High School diploma or GED with 45+ college credit hours; Bachelor Degree preferred
Investigative experience; sworn police officer status (past or current) preferred
Computer skills
Excellent writing skills
Experience working on special projects
Valid Illinois driver’s license
Working Conditions
Some work is performed in a regular office environment with little exposure to excessive noise, dust, temperature, etc. Some work may be performed outdoors and could mandate driving or walking short to moderate distances.
The position may require prolonged sitting, typing, monitoring of a screen, etc. It is incumbent on the employee to exercise common sense and take necessary breaks, practice proper body mechanics/ alignment, and alert a supervisor, if necessary, of any discomfort.
The position may not exceed 1,000 hours per year.

Hiring Salary: $30.00/hour
