Under the supervision of the Director of Athletics & Recreation, the Assistant Director is responsible for managing the coordination of operations and facilities for the Department of Athletics and Recreation.

In addition to the CUNY Title Overview, responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Assist the Director in the management of the day-to-day operations of the Department, including intercollegiate team scheduling, travel arrangements, meal vouchers, assignments of officials and game-day trainers for all home events.

Assist in reviewing initial eligibility compliance for student participation in the NJCAA by maintaining complete files for each student-athlete to ensure eligibility, including current physical examinations, transfer tracking forms, transfer waivers where applicable, and official transcripts from any other college.

Administer the operations of the fitness center, gymnasium and pool facilities and their respective staff.

Coordinate with Buildings and Grounds on supply orders and requests for cleaning and maintenance as necessary.

Assist with maintaining of all City Health Department Records for the BMCC pool.

Responsible for generating all purchase orders for supplies and equipment within the department using the CUNYFirst financial system and working closely with the Purchasing Department to follow all procurement policies and procedures.

Assist the Director with the insurance company regarding athletic injuries, claims and coordination of benefits.

Coordinate study hall sessions and tutoring with the coaches where applicable.

Serve as Site Supervisor for all home intercollegiate events on and off campus.

Research and provide opportunities for the recreation and intramural program.

Coordinate with the Sports Information Intern, statistical information, publicity, photos, and updating the BMCC athletic website.

Assist in overseeing all college assistant time sheets, student/athlete meal vouchers, sign-in sheets, etc.

Participate in campus-wide student outreach and support activities such as orientation, registration, destress week, commencement, and other college-wide events.

Serve on a variety of college and university-wide committees.

Participate in campus-wide student outreach and support activities.

Assume responsibility for leadership of the Athletics Department in absence of the Director, as needed.

Work schedule will include some evenings and weekends.


Bachelor's Degree and four years' related experience required.

Other Qualifications:
Master’s degree preferred in Athletic Administration, Sports Management, or related field.

Certifications: IT (Instructor Training in Lifeguarding) and Pool Operator certificate preferred; Water Safety Instructor and current lifeguard certification preferred.

Experience in implementation of intercollegiate and student recreational programs for a diverse student population and evidence of successful college-wide collaborations preferred.

Knowledge of NJCAA eligibility rules and compliance preferred.

Experience with current higher education practice, theory and research preferred.

Knowledge of best practices in athletic and implementation, with an emphasis on research, assessment, and data-informed decision making.

Must possess strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills, with attention to detail and proven leadership experience.

Ability to work evening hours and weekends as necessary.

Be an individual who can work independently and under general supervision to provide courteous and accurate customer service to all students, visitors and campus community.

Be or have been involved in professional associations.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, managing social media, and designing promotional and informational materials.


Administers one or more aspects of a College athletics program.

Coordinates development and implementation of information and marketing materials, such as web sites

Coordinates recreation and intramural programs in support of wellness activities

Organizes, coordinates, and manages intramural and varsity sports events

Compiles and reports on statistics for NCAA and CUNY requirements; compiles reports on programs and activities

Coordinates scheduling of facilities and programs

Assists management with planning and oversight of various athletics activities

Performs related duties as assigned.
