Full Job Description

Our team is looking for an OB Technician to join our Labor and Delivery Unit at St. Joseph Hospital of Orange. This is a part time, 12-hour night shift position for a total of 48 biweekly hours.

Location: Orange, CA

Work Schedule: Part Time

Shift: 12-hours, Nights

Job Summary:
Under the direction of the Nurse Manager, the OB Technician assists in patient care with direction from RN. Responsible for providing infant bath, setting up for and scrubbing Cesarean Sections, setting up for vaginal deliveries and other procedures, restocking rooms and delivery or epidural carts after use, and is responsible for maintaining equipment and supplies. Must perform functions such as acting as a receptionist for the unit, computer order and data entry, assembling of patient charts, and other essential unit secretarial functions.

Essential Functions:
Responsible for ordering, stocking, and tracking of unit supplies with proper documentation.
Maintain inventory of supplies, to assure availability of supplies for continuing needs. Working with Central Service and Pharmacy to maintain appropriate par levels.
Using sterile technique, prepares delivery/surgical tables for utilization and maintains an adequate number of instrument trays in inventory, set up ready for delivery.
Maintaining the supply of instruments by tracking transfer to and from sterile processing with proper documentation.
Inform manager/Clinical Coordinator of equipment needs in an anticipatory as well as current need.
Responsible for insuring that delivery rooms and delivery carts are reset after each use with appropriate equipment and supplies.
Ordering and maintaining equipment in the unit with appropriate follow up on orders or repairs with purchasing, vendors, Biomedical Engineering or maintenance, with proper documentation.
Using sterile technique, scrub for cesarean sections as assigned including counting of instruments, needles and sponges before and after case, and proper handling of contaminated instruments.
Maintains accurate documentation for regulatory compliance logs with appropriate follow-up.
Assists RN' s and MD's with tasks during vaginal deliveries.
Transport delivered mother and healthy neonate to MBU, rendering care specific to those age groups.
Consistently completes daily performance checklist with verbal report to oncoming OB Tech and charge nurse.
Accurately performs patient safety scans post cesarean and vaginal deliveries; follows policies as directed; maintains equipment.
Adapts to changing needs by acquiring new skills and behaviors and approaching change in a positive manner.

Essential Unit Secretarial Functions:
  • Acts as receptionist for the nursing station, answering inquiries of a general nature through utilization of phone and paging system, message relaying, and promotion of good working relationships with intra-department and inter-department personnel. Includes positively interacting with patients and Physician office.
  • Coordinates and requisitions routine services, supplies, and equipment to ensure efficient and safe operation of the unit.
  • Demonstrates efficiency in performance of clerical duties to ensure efficient daily unit operation.
  • Demonstrates responsibility for the containment of hospital costs and conservation of office supplies and environment and equipment.
  • Accurately documents scheduled cases; includes all appropriate patient information and follows established guidelines.
  • Maintains and organizes accurate hospital and unit records, as directed. Includes managing prenatal history, and faxes.
  • Enters data into MEDITECH and teletracking in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Demonstrates efficiency and accuracy in correctly assembling, maintaining, and disassembling each medical record.
  • Demonstrates knowledge, prioritizes and completes processing of physician orders in a timely manner.
  • Assumes responsibility for establishing and maintaining a satisfactory physical environment in the nursing station irrespective of nursing activity.
Skills:
Ability to follow instructions.
Ability to communicate clearly.
Basic knowledge in Windows computer system.
Effective skills in communication, problem solving, interpersonal relationships and prioritization.
Knowledge of computer systems and sterile technique preferred.

Minimum Position Qualifications:
Education:
H.S. Diploma or GED
Coursework/Training- Competency in scrubbing. Will train.

License / Certifications: BLS certification.
