The surgical physician assistant is responsible for assisting in the pre-operative, intra-operative and post-operative care of the patient under the direction of the supervising physician throughout the network. Additionally, the surgical physician assistant is responsible for providing surgical in-house coverage on a periodic rotating 24-hour basis as scheduled. As with any other health care professional, the physician assistant is charged with being a patient advocate in the health care system.

This position will float throughout the network as needed, and offers great incentives to float.

Initial evaluation, history and physical examination of all surgical patients whether they are inpatient, ambulatory patients.
Assist the supervising physician in the intra-operative care of the patient as the first or second assistant.
Daily evaluation of patients, appropriate use of Electronic Medical Record.
Perform therapeutic and diagnostic procedures as directed by the supervising physician. (See credentials list.)
As available, assist the supervising physician with the weekly surgical clinics as assigned.
Attend appropriate continuing medical education so as to maintain the National Certification and Pennsylvania License.
Assist the supervising physician with the evaluation and management of their in-house and emergency admission patients.
Adjunct faculty to various college/university programs as clinical instructors.
Perform History and Physical Examinations as well as pre-anesthesia evaluations in Pre-Admission Testing and Interventional Radiology as assigned.
Act as supplemental staff to other Campuses SLB, SLA, SLQ, SLM in the capacity listed above.

Sitting for up to 3 hours per day and 3 hours at a time. Standing for up to 8 hours per day, 8 hours at a time. Walking for up to 6 hours per day, 1 hour at a time. Frequently fingering, handling, firm grasping and twisting and. Rarely lifting, with assistance, up to 100 pounds. Rarely pushing and pulling patients weighing up to 300 pounds in a wheelchair or bed. Occasionally stooping and bending. Seeing as it relates to normal near and far vision, and hearing as it relates to both high and low frequencies.

Graduation from a Physician Assistant Program; must be certified by the NCCPA and eligible for a Pennsylvania license as issued by the State Board of Medical Education and Licensure.
