The Certified Nursing Assistant/Medication Technician helps the professional nursing staff provide nursing care to residents in the areas of daily hygiene, toileting, feeding, moving safely to activities or functions, and maintaining the overall cleanliness of the resident’s room. He or she provides complete care for assigned residents by dispensing medications and providing personal care under the direction of licensed personnel on duty following all established procedures and regulatory guidelines. The CNA/Med Tech dispenses medications, completes some documentation, helps participants with activities of daily living (ADL), leads activity programs, and works closely with families and volunteers. Reporting to the Charge Nurse, he or she provides encouragement and assistance to motivate residents to achieve their maximum level of independence. This is a full-time position that requires you to work a variable and flexible schedule. The ideal candidate for this position has a high school diploma or GED, the training/education required to achieve certification, and a current certification as a Nursing Assistant/ and a Registered Medication Aide in this state. One to two years of experience in the field is preferred. Fluent English speaking and writing skills, empathy and the ability to listen, good time management skills, and professional dress, speech, and behavior are all required for this position.

  • Provides resident care including personal hygiene, grooming, dressing, nourishment and fluids, skin care, and turning and positioning bedfast residents at least every 2 hours
  • Helps patients in and out of bed, ambulates patients according to Plan of Care, changes bed linens weekly and as needed, and helps residents to the bathroom as needed
  • Responds to call lights promptly
  • Helps residents to and from social and dining activities and encourages their participation
  • Provides emotional support, comfort, and safety to all residents
  • Immediately reports any accidents and unusual occurrences to the Charge Nurse, Nurse Manager, or Supervisor
  • Maintains the environment and unit, neat, clean, and safe
  • Reports faulty equipment and safety hazards to the Nurse in charge immediately
  • Observes and reports all changes in a resident’s condition immediately to the Charge Nurse or Nurse Manager
  • Participates in in-service education and training and outside professional development as needed to keep in current with trends in the industry
  • Performs certain selected treatments such as taking temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure; measuring and recording intake and output; collecting specimens (urine and stool); nail and hair care; and administering perineal care
  • Helps update Resident Care Plans
  • Maintains resident rights and confidentiality
  • Helps Dietary Hostess deliver plates to residents in the dining room, helps residents set up tray (i.e., cutting up food, opening packages, and pouring milk), and helps those residents in need by feeding in a “non-rushed” and pleasant manner
  • If assigned to the ALU, additional duties include: receiving daily reports from the Resident Care Coordinator regarding special health care concerns/needs for apartment residents, helping with activities of daily living for assigned apartment residents, helping residents to/from the main dining room and appointments, monitoring safety in apartments, responding to any emergency in the resident apartments, and reporting to appropriate supervisor when assignments are complete
  • If assigned to SC Unit, additional duties include: helping the resident with one-on-one activities, walking, and companionship following the Care Plan; observing resident behavior patterns and reporting all changes/differences to the Charge Nurse for Care Plan revisions; and sitting with those residents in agitated states as assigned
  • Dispenses medications under the direction of a licensed nurse according to established procedures
  • Orders, receives, and inventories medications according to established policies and procedures
  • Participates in monthly MAR turnover as assigned
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Certified as a Nursing Assistant (CNA) in this state
