Forsyth County Public Library is looking for enthusiastic individuals to join our 4-branch library system.

These part-time, 25-hour per week positions offer paid vacation & sick time and Teachers Retirement.

JOB OVERVIEWS:

The Information Specialist position is a front-line customer service position for the Library and provides information, readers’ advisory, and circulation services to library patrons of all ages. It uses electronic and print resources to meet patrons’ information needs. It plans, prepares, and presents programs for adults. It also assists in collection maintenance and performs a variety of tasks in support of the Library including registration for library cards, placing holds and maintaining the holds shelf, check outs and renewals.

The Youth Specialist position is a front-line customer service position for the Library and provides information, reader’s advisory, and circulation services to library patrons of all ages, with a specific emphasis on services for children and teens. It uses electronic and print resources to meet patrons’ information needs. It plans, prepares, and presents programs for children and teens. It also assists in collection maintenance and performs a variety of tasks in support of the Library including registration for library cards, placing holds and maintaining the holds shelf, check outs and renewals.

PAY RATE: $15.35 per hour (higher for MLIS). Non-exempt.

SCHEDULE: Part-time, 25 hours per week. The library is open 7 days/week - schedule includes a combination of daytime hours and evening hours. Work schedules will vary, must be able to work at least 1 evening each week and rotating Saturdays (mornings and afternoons) and Sundays (12:45 p.m. – 5:45 p.m.).

This schedule is an ongoing requirement to be considered.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree
  • Experience: Customer service
  • Experience with cash handling: Receives cash, check & credit card payments.
  • Ability to work in a very active environment serving a diverse community.
  • Strong interpersonal & verbal communication skills including public speaking skills.
  • Knowledge: Broad knowledge in a variety of topics and interests. Knowledge of classic & popular authors for all ages.
  • Computer: Windows, MS Office, databases, electronic/print resources. Assist patrons with computers, software, electronic devices.
  • Preferred: 1+years of experience in presenting adult (Information Specialist) or children’s and teen programs (Youth Specialist).
  • Preferred: Direct experience in a public library, in reference, information, & readers advisory services.
  • Preferred: Master’s in Library Science (MLIS) with Georgia Certificate of Librarianship.
  • Preferred: Bilingual (English/Spanish, English/Hindi/Tamil/Telugu) skills helpful.

Physical Demands: Prolonged standing & sitting. Frequent stooping, bending, walking, moving throughout library, pushing fully-loaded book carts & bins. High degree of manual dexterity & repetitive hand movement. Frequent lifting of light objects (e.g., books, reams of paper), occasional lifting of heavy items (e.g., props, puppet theater, tables, tubs of materials), occasional pushing/pulling motions to move chairs, tables, or meeting room wall partitions. Able to independently lift or move a tub/container of materials (up to 40 lbs.).
