Position Summary
D.C. United is looking for a staff accountant to assist the VP of Finance in the daily finance activities of the organization. The organization will hire an energetic, self-motivated, detail-oriented individual to assist in a myriad of accounting activities including accounts payable maintenance, invoicing, journal entry postings, as well as assisting in the monthly closings and financial statement preparation. The individual will also work closely with other departments to make sure the finance department is a resource in the successful management of the organization as a whole. He or she will prepare daily journal entries, manage accounts payable and receivable, update asset and recognition schedules, and perform moderately complex activities related to the maintenance of a complete and accurate general ledger, under general supervision. The ideal candidate has the foresight to anticipate issues and proactively avoid potential problems while recommending improvements to internal processes
Job Responsibilities
Prepares general ledger entries by maintaining records and files in adherence with generally accepted accounting principles; reconciling both profit and loss and balance sheet accounts
Prepares payments by tracking vendor invoices; issuing checks and initiating wires; monitoring aged payables
Monitors accounts receivable and generates invoices; maintains accurate client information; assists in collection of unpaid account
Maintains asset and liability schedules, including depreciation calculation and recognizing deferred revenue and prepaid expenses
Month-end close reporting and analysis, including bank reconciliations
Answers accounting and financial questions by researching and interpreting data.
Education and Work Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
1-2 years of corporate accounting experience
CPA candidate preferred
Competencies (KSAs)
Basic knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
Proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
Ability to work independently
Effective oral and written communication skills
Discretion in handling confidential materials
Familiarity with Microsoft Dynamics database or similar accounting or ERP software desired
40 hours/week
