We are seeking a highly-motivated scientist to fill a molecular & cellular biology laboratory position in the Protein, Cell, & Structural Sciences Department within the Platform Technology & Science division of R&D located in Upper Providence, PA. The successful candidate will be responsible for the conceptual design and development of disease-relevant cellular reagents and assays for use in screening and compound profiling and the development / application of new methodologies for this purpose. This scientist will also have the opportunity to work on targets in multiple therapeutic areas including Oncology, Immuno-inflammation, Infectious Disease, and Respiratory Disease, among others. Title and salary will be commensurate with experience.
• Work in a matrix team environment to enable optimal delivery of project and department objectives to the highest possible scientific standard
• Independently execute laboratory experiments and/or advanced data analysis, integration and interpretation with an emphasis on providing appropriate context for data and experiments in the progress of programs and/or platforms
• Design and optimize biological reagents and assays as needed by sponsored program teams
• Play a key role in capability building and technology evaluation projects within the department
• Demonstrate strong scientific leadership as well as excellent written and oral communication
• Ensure compliance with all GSK R&D data integrity practices, ethics codes, standards and training, and safety training and practice
A Bachelor OR Master’s degree in a life sciences discipline (e.g. molecular biology, cell biology, immunology) with at least 6+ months of relevant laboratory experience.
Qualified candidates should have strong track-record in either one or more of the following disciplines: Cell Biology, Immunology, or Molecular Biology
Practical knowledge of cell biology and molecular analysis of cellular function, with familiarity with one or more of the following:
o Stable cell line generation / cell engineering
o Flow cytometry
o Single cell analytical methods
o Cell-based assay development
o Design and engineering of recombinant reagents
o Predictive disease-relevant tissue culture models such as culture of primary cells/stem cells, co-cultures, and 3-dimensional cell culture
Demonstrated strengths in high performance behaviors, such as building relationships, flexible thinking, and enabling/driving change
Demonstrated track record of achievement in basic and applied research as evidenced by publications in peer reviewed scientific journals
Ability to formulate and communicate a coherent vision/research plan
Qualified candidates should have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and strong enterprise behavior working across different lines to ensure optimum support of drug discovery programs
