Candidate will lead all global R&D activities related to the high temperature material portfolio, with emphasis on thermal barrier coatings, environmental barrier coatings, and MCrAlY bond coatings, and will be responsible for the development and launch of new products. Candidate will work closely with Product Portfolio Managers and Key Account Managers. One of main objectives is to understand the requirements of large gas turbine OEM’s such as GE, Pratt & Whitney, Rolls-Royce and develop new material solutions to serve their needs, including joint development projects.


Lead a cross-functional team in the development of coating solutions in the TBC/EBC arena through integrated projects that combine material development, coating deposition and spray parameter development, and material/equipment packages that meet customer requirements.
Support customer specific projects as the technical expert working with Product Portfolio Managers and Key Account Managers to obtain customer approvals and certification of Oerlikon Metco materials.
Understand the market trends of next generation TBC’s, EBC’s, and MCrAlY’s, and what our customers and competitors are doing in the arena, and define the coating needs of large OEM’s are.
Develop a strategy to work closely with key customers and OEM’s with regard to new product development, and initiate and lead joint development projects with key customers and OEM’s where appropriate.
Represent Oerlikon Metco’s on professional societies and committees in the high temperature materials arena, and promote the company and its product portfolio through presentations at technical conferences and publishing of technical papers
Enhance Oerlikon Metco patent position through new innovations, preparing and writing patents, review patent literature, and understand the intellectual property landscape.
Collaborate with customer and Universities to develop material solutions in TBC/EBC arena, including bond coats and different spray technologies


A degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science, or Mechanical Engineering, preferably with a PhD, and related work experience of 10 years minimum is required. Must have an in-depth knowledge of thermal spray processes, materials manufacturing techniques and T/S applications. Must be knowledgeable in project management and prioritizing methods for multiple projects. Must be able to manage departmental and projects budgets and have the required skills for supervising a highly technical group of engineers and technicians and interface globally with colleagues and customers.
