Full Job Description
The YMCA of South Florida's Weston Family Center is seeking dynamic instructors for a variety of classes. Under the direction of the Senior Healthy Living Director and/or the Healthy Living Manager, the Group Fitness Instructor will teach classes that are aimed at improving the overall fitness levels of our members.
Lead engaging class experience that is challenging, yet safe, and able to be modified to fit the needs of the target audience.
Asks and answers questions from program participants and members to support them in achieving their goals related to health and well-being.
Maintains working knowledge of wellness and trends to provide effective information and support to members.
Builds effective, authentic relationships with members; helps members and program participants connect with each other and the YMCA.
Observes and adjusts approach during class to support all participants’ capabilities, physical conditions, health, and culture.
Ensure that all necessary equipment is set up for class, and inspect equipment to be sure that it is in safe working order.
Ensure that class is set up to start and end on time.
Monitor that fitness room is neat and equipment used during a class is returned to its proper location in an organized manner before leaving. Instructors are responsible for providing their own music suitable for a family setting.
Report injuries to Healthy Living Director and / or Executive Director and complete the proper paperwork immediately following any injury. This information must be reported to the Human Resources Department within 24 hours of incident. Serious injuries must be called in to Human Resources immediately.
Ensure that there is a substitute instructor, if you are unable to teach your assigned class.
Partner with Healthy Living Director to develop special events that promote fitness and meet community fitness needs.
Other duties, as assigned.
Current National Certification from one of the following organizations: ASFA, AFAA, ACSM, ACE, ISSA, NETA or AFPA. In lieu of one of the above listed National Certifications, instructor must complete an approved specialty certification- that includes a practical portion. Such certifications may include, but are not limited to: Les Mills, Mad Dogg, Beach Body, Mossa, Zumba, Yoga Alliance, Pilates, Silver Sneakers, Schwinn, Yogafit, TRX, MX4/MX4 Active, etc.
Current CPR certification may be attained within first 30 days of employment.
Minimum of 1-2 years related fitness experience (preferred).
Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to interact with individuals at all levels.
Bi-lingual preferred, English and Spanish (fluent in both languages).
Knowledge of the principles related to the improvement of overall fitness levels.
An individual who is a people person who likes to interact with members of various ages and stages in life.
An individual who demonstrates compassion and caring for all individuals that he/she comes into contact with on a daily basis.
A trend setter who will stay current and leading edge with trends in health and fitness to provide exceptional programs and services to our members and team.
As a condition of employment, you will be required to submit to and satisfactorily clear a thorough Level II fingerprinting background screening.
