Communications Assistant

HFH seeks a Communications Assistant to join the Communications Team. This individual will have an interest in education, social services, and promoting opportunities for children, youth, and their families. They will enjoy a fast-paced environment and will be exposed to all areas of communications and marketing for a large nonprofit. This position will report to the Senior Communications Associate.

Communications Assistant

  • Develop and implement social media campaigns including content creation, posting, and engagement
  • Report, research, fact check, copy edit, and write content for multiple web sites, collateral, and press materials, including but not limited to staff, volunteer, and partner highlights, brochures, fact sheets, and annual reports
  • Attend events and activities in the field, photograph and videotape, and maintain photo archive and media release process
  • Draft acknowledgement and thank you letters to donors and assist with database entry
  • Update web content in Word Press
  • Assist with all aspects of event planning and logistics for major conference held every other year
  • Coordinate miscellaneous administrative tasks
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends tied to Communications support of events and activities


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or Public Policy
  • Past internships or work experience in communications, public relations, marketing
  • Excellent verbal and written communication

Preferred Skills

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Knowledge of or willingness and aptitude to learn HootSuite, Salesforce, CVENT, Google Analytics, Word Press, Constant Contact
  • Photography
