Maintenance Assistant (Engineering & Public Works) part-time with an online application deadline of 09/08/2019 or until 75 applicants have successfully completed the application process.

STARTING SALARY RANGE: $18.04 - $20.08 per hour working up to 19 hours per week. Salary dependent on qualifications. The salary range for this position is $18.04 - $26.17.

WORK SCHEDULE: The preferred work schedule is generally a 4-hour shift between the hours of 7:00a - 3:30p, Monday through Friday, where the start/end time may differ each day.

This position performs manual work of an unskilled nature. Work consists of assisting staff in the maintenance and repair of Village infrastructure, buildings, grounds and facilities. This position may also perform semi-skilled mechanical labor as well as custodial work, facility asset management, inventory procurement and material management.

Performs a variety of routine unskilled manual tasks, uses simple tools and carries and wheels heavy material as required.
Performs minor maintenance and custodial work in the care of Village owned buildings, grounds, and facilities.
Performs shop and yard clean-up and organization. Is responsible for the arrangement, location and proper operation of job related tools and equipment in the shop/yard environment.
Drives a 58,000 pound GVWR truck hauling gravel, fill, or other material or plowing snow, services trucks and other equipment.
Performs Snow and Ice control duties and assists in emergencies such as floods and wind or rain storms.
Assists in processing and filling material requests and distributions of both fleet and public works related material.
Thorough knowledge of the Department’s Standard Operating Procedures and Safety Practices.
Keeps accurate records of accomplishments.
Performs other tasks and duties as assigned.

Maintains records, inventory supply lists and log entries. Assists inventory control specialists with procurement and inventory processes. Assists technicians in automotive fleet maintenance and repairs.

Education equivalent to a high school diploma.
A minimum of six months of general maintenance or related experience.
Possession of a valid State of Illinois Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or ability to obtain within six months from date of hire.
Proficiency with current computer software systems, including email, calendar programs, job specific software, and customer service systems preferred or within the first six months of employment.

Demonstrate a working knowledge of hand tools and power tools. Ability to establish good working relationships. Ability to understand mechanical systems and processes. Ability to read, write and speak the English language.

Physical strength and agility sufficient to do strenuous laboring tasks under varying weather conditions. Ability to lift and move 75 pounds or more on a frequent basis.
Willingness to work manual labor under adverse environmental conditions.
Subject to frequently changing walking surfaces.
Frequent and/or prolonged bending, stooping, standing, pulling, pushing, or reaching.
Occasionally works at heights/depths of 10 to 60 feet above or below ground.
Subject to extremes of temperature for prolonged periods or abrupt changes in temperature.
Subject to inclement weather conditions.
Subject to fumes and disagreeable odors.
Subject to extended periods of isolation.
Subject to high levels of noise for an extended period of time.
Subject to working in wet, dirty, dusty, hot, humid and/or cold conditions in high vehicle traffic areas.
