Senior Systems Engineer II

JMA Solutions has an opportunity available for a Senior Systems Engineer II supporting the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Air Traffic Organization, Program Management Office providing direct support to Decision Support Services. This is a specialist engineer & architect role, with depth in integration and middleware. It is NOT a general strategist, enterprise/solutions architect, broad architecture leader etc. Also, NOT a senior developer or tech lead, but the candidate MUST have background in design/development of TFMS. This position is located in Washington, DC.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Analyzes details of the design and architecture from a high level down to the code, as well as details of the infrastructure and security;
  • Participates in the design, development and implementation of architectural deliverables, assesses system components and system design for system, and reviews user requirements;
  • Contributes to the determination of technical and operational feasibility of solutions;
  • Identifies best-fit architectural solutions for one or more projects;

Cross Domain Integration Support

  • Examine early lifecycle concepts to define integration alternatives among systems;
  • Participate in prototype testing for cross-system interactions;

System Analyst Support

  • Perform Human In The Loop (HITL) simulations, system demonstrations, and operational trials to collect data and perform post-exercise analysis;

Systems Engineering Support

  • Develop and validate system requirements, specifications, requirements traceability, and verify compliance;
  • Participate in the design, development, and preparation of step-by-step test scenarios and acceptance criteria for the conduct of test and evaluation activities;
  • Maintain the Operational Test and Evaluation (OT&E) scenarios and support TFM testing activities;
  • Provide support to potentially new TFMS interfaces with existing or new FAA applications and associated requirements activities, ensuring successful design for implementation of the TFM enhanced system;
  • Identify and recommend TFMS enhancement activities including research, prototyping, proof of concept development, requirements specification, and benefits analyses;
  • Develop performance specifications for new and existing TFMS products;
  • Review system documentation for the design, checkout, integration, and testing of TFMS;
  • Perform analysis of system, software, and hardware architecture and engineering solutions and make recommendations for improvement;
  • Support Traffic Flow Management Integration Working Group (WG) activities, including meetings between TFMS, TBFM, TFDM, SDI, and Enterprise Information Display System (E-IDS) groups;
  • Provide engineering support for the development of TFM Release Post Implementation Review (PIR) plans and reports;
  • Provide engineering support for the TFM safety risk management process and perform activities defined in the Safety Risk Management (SRM) plan

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Core expertise in the area of middleware, integration, web services, XML for Web services (XSDs, WSDLs), API/REST, gateways, C/C++, Security approaches related to integration;
  • Has experience designing non-functional requirements such as security, performance, scalability/ ETC.;

DESIRED SKILLS:

  • Knowledge of and experience with FAA AMS (Acquisition Management Systems) processes and FAA NAS Automation systems such as ERAM (En Route Automation Modernization), STARS (Standard Terminal Automation Replacement System), TFMS (Traffic Flow Management Systems), STDDS (SWIM Terminal Data Distribution System), TBFM (Time Based Flow Management)
  • The preferred candidate will be detail oriented, able to work independently, be highly self-motivated, and a proactive team player
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)

SECURITY CLEARANCE: The ability to successfully obtain and maintain a U.S. Suitability/Public Trust Background Clearance

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Math, and Science degrees is required and a minimum of 15 years of experience. In lieu of a Bachelor’s degree, 8 additional years of experience can serve as a substitute.
