This position, under the supervision of a Public Works Administrator, performs a variety of duties related to the care and maintenance of an assigned division. This position follows standard safety procedures and regulations; performs manual labor tasks related to assigned work; operates heavy equipment and other equipment in assigned areas under the direction of a division lead worker. Must be available for both scheduled and emergency after-hours duty in a variety of weather conditions throughout the year. May be assigned to divisions related to road infrastructure, parks/buildings grounds maintenance, sewer infrastructure, water infrastructure, sanitation or recycling.
Must possess a valid, unrestricted Michigan driver’s license and an excellent driving record. Must be able to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class A endorsement within 60 days from date of hire. This is a mandatory requirement; contact the local Secretary of State’s office for information on how to obtain this license. Preference may be given to current CDL license holders.
Must be able to pass a criminal history background check and a driving record check through the Michigan State Police. Previous work record should reflect a good attendance and timeliness record as the employee will be expected to be dependable and maintain good attendance. Must work overtime when required.
Additionally, to perform the essential functions of the job, the individual will be required to possess and maintain a physical condition necessary for lifting heavy objects, bending, twisting, stooping, walking and standing, for long periods of time during the work shift in all weather conditions.
