About the Department
Student Housing and Conference Services (SHCS) is a large department within California State University, Northridge (CSUN) serving the university community consisting of 44 acres of grounds and approximately 1,100,000 square feet of facilities space in 34 buildings that house 3,200 single students and 120 students/staff with families. Under general supervision, the Mail Clerk performs work involving the daily coordination, sorting, distribution, and forwarding of United States mail and other printed packaged materials for all Student Housing residents. The incumbent drives a state owned pick-up and utility cart in order to perform responsibilities; responsible for collecting Student Housing mail from US Postal Services; maintains process for distribution of packages; maintains the database of current resident mailbox numbers and forwarding addresses; handles requests for flyer distribution from campus and community organizations; responsible for assisting with the hiring and training of student Mail Assistants; assists in maintaining student Mail Assistants work schedule, work flow, and quality of work; provides general upkeep of databases related to distribution and forwarding of Student Housing resident mail; tracks use of office supplies and orders replacements when appropriate; coordinates distribution of mail box keys and orders replacement keys when necessary; and performs other duties as assigned.
One year of general office clerical work, stock clerk work or delivery service work.
LICENSE: CANDIDATE MUST POSSESS A VALID CALIFORNIA DRIVER'S LICENSE.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
General knowledge of office methods, supplies and equipment. Working knowledge of current postage rates and shipping rules and regulations. Ability and skills to: accurately interpret and apply current postage rate charts and regulations; spell correctly; read and write at a level appropriate to the duties of the position; problem solve; perform mathematical calculations quickly and accurately; lift and move bags of mail; learn the organizational structure, programs, and physical layout of the campus; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships; and ability to operate standard office equipment.
Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule

The salary range for this classification is: $2600 - $4331 per month.
The anticipated HIRING RANGE: $2600 - $2678, dependent upon qualifications and experience.
HOURS: Full Time; 40 hours per week; 9:00am - 6:00pm, Monday through Friday.
REG: This is a Regular position with a one-year probationary period.
This position is a sensitive position as designated by the CSU.
A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU.
