Full or Part time LItigation assistant with some litigation experience

We are probably the busiest plaintiffs law firm in Northwest Broward County with the type of quality of cases that we handle in litigation. We are being slammed with trials this year. We need a person with experience in filing and serving pleadings and setting and scheduling hearings online, scheduling mediations and depositions. Good people skills a must. We prefer a person with a minimum of one year of experience. Must have excellent follow up skills and must be a person who pays attention to detail.. You will be assisting our paralegal who has been with our law firm now for 26 years.

We prefer a person who has at least one year of litigation experience

For full-time employees, if you have the experience that we need, if you switch to our law firm, once you pass the 3 month (90 day) probationary period, we will give you a net bonus of one thousand dollars because we want a top notch experienced person to consider moving from, for example, another law firm downtown to a location closer to where they live. (This bonus offer ONLY applies if you are presently working with another law firm and know litigation and have been there for more than one year, and if you switch to our firm).

But we want to be clear on what the position requires. First, what it is not. It is NOT a paralegal position. Second, you must be quick, and you must be a team player who can work under pressure.

You need to be strong enough to follow through on all assignments, dealing with our opponents legal assistants who can be nasty and uncooperative in getting anything set, and know or learn how to speak with JA's. You must be friendly enough to speak with our clients and inform them of the legal process and the next steps that will happen.

You must know Microsoft Word well enough to be able to know how to format discovery responses and pleadings, type a motion or a complaint with proper formatting for the style of the case and how pleading needs to look in order to be filed with the courtIf you have NOT worked extensively with Microsoft Word before, please do not apply.

Your position will include working setting and confirming depositions/hearings/mediations. You must know how to set these now, in Broward, Dade and Palm Beach Counties. You will also be typing motions and other legal documents. You may also be asked to work up pre-litigation files to get them ready for demand by sending for medical records, bills, and liens, etc. However, the majority of your duties will be to assist our paralegal and work with the three attorneys setting matters. You will have some client contact. You must be a team player.

We are looking for a very personable and pleasant individual, (bilingual Spanish-fluent helpful, but not required) who enjoys working in a very friendly small office environment. We are a non-smoking office.

The applicant should be warm and friendly, but tough and firm enough to deal with paralegals and legal assistants in other law firms who very often can be difficult to deal with or get to cooperate with you. You must have excellent follow-up and organizational skills. You must type a minimum of 50 words per minute. You must get along with people. If you have these skills, you are a candidate whether or not you are bilingual.

We are a law firm with more than one dozen employees located in a very nice three story building across from the "Walk: in Coral Springs.

Salary is dependent upon experience.

For full-timers (40 hours per week):

  • We offer health insurance (Blue Cross Blue Shield, PPO or HMO to which we pay the majority of it for the employee—you can add your family at an additional cost to you).
  • We also offer a dental plan.

  • We pay and give time off for 8 holidays per year.
  • We offer paid vacation and sick/personal days.

There is a 90 day probationary period for which no benefits will be given or paid (health ins. Eligibility is approximately 60 days).

  • Paid vacation accrues usually accrues as follows (but see below).

1 week accrues during first year

2 weeks per year accrue til six years.

3 weeks accrue starting in sixth year

4 weeks accrue starting in 11th year

5 weeks accrue after 20 full years.

However, for somebody switching firms to us who is used to more paid vacation, that is something that is negotiable. That is, for somebody with a lot of experience who has been with another firm for a long period of time, and gets more vacation, we can negotiate your vacation time if that is an essential requirement of you to switch to our firm.

  • We give 3 days sick or personal paid which begins to accrue after 90 days. Vacation and sick and personal leave that is unused is not lost, it accrues.

If a person requires more time off than accrued, the time off may be given, though unpaid.

  • We give a year end monetary bonus, usually 1 week salary after one full year, two week's salary after two years for excellent performance. Thankfully, we have not been affected by the economy, and are less subject to economic changes and fluctuations than most businesses.

Our office handles vehicle crash cases and other accident and injury type cases and some very serious interesting genre of cases. We will give you a spelling and typing test. Full-time: Hours of employment 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., one hour lunch, but we can "tweak" the hours slightly, if necessary. Part time: 20 to less than 30 hours per week. No benefits.
