The Kern County Human Resources Division invite the students of California State University, Bakersfield to participate in the Fall 2019 Internship Program. This unpaid opportunity will allow selected candidates to work within the Human Resources Division, Information Technology Services, or the Auditor's Office learning how local government is conducted. Student Interns may select to participate for school credit or for experience.

What we are looking for:
Kern County has partnered with CherryRoad, an Oracle Cloud implementer, for a two year project to migrate the County's aging Accounting, Budgeting, and Human Resources systems from its existing mainframe environment to Oracle's ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) and HCM (Human Capital Management) cloud solutions. The Kern County project teams are seeking qualified individuals to assist in the Departments leading this project. These departments include the Auditor-Controller's Office, the Human Resources Department, and Information Technology Services.

Within Human Resources Division:
Qualified individuals will have a passion for project management, process improvement, and an understanding of how technology supports the needs of a business. Specific skills desired of potential candidates for an Internship within the HR division include but are not limited to, knowledge of basic human resources principles and practices, human capital management systems, applicant tracking systems, performance management systems, training and development systems, and payroll practices and systems. Work experience in the human resources field is desirable.

Within Information Technology Services:
Qualified individuals will have a passion for technology, a drive for improvement, and an understanding of how technology is used to support the business. Specific skills desired of potential candidates for an Internship within the ITS division include but are not limited to, knowledge of relational databases and SQL Server, proficiency with Excel and spreadsheets, and familiarity with cloud computing concepts. Backgrounds and experience with accounting, finance or human resources is also a plus.

Minimum Qualifications/Employment Standards:
Be a college student or recent graduate from an accredited university.

Be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident alien, or a non-citizen with proof of eligibility to work in the United States. Individuals under the age of eighteen will require a work permit, which may be obtained though the high school counselor or the Employment Development Department.

Be enrolled in an accredited institution or a school licensed by a state agency or have graduated from such an institution or school within the last six months

Have an overall grade point average (G.P.A.) of at least 2.5 on a four-point scale

Submit a completed application for employment, a resume and a copy of the most recent educational transcript verifying academic standing. Unofficial transcripts will be accepted.

This position works in various departments throughout Kern County.
