DC Entertainment (DCE) is home to the iconic brands of DC Comics (Superman, Batman, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman, The Flash and more), Vertigo (Sandman, Fables) and MAD. DCE drives the strategic integration of these brands throughout Warner Bros. Entertainment divisions, creating content and experiences with DC stories and characters across film, television, consumer products, home entertainment and interactive entertainment. DCE is also the largest English language comic publisher in the world. Its publishing business generates thousands of comic books, graphic novels and magazines each year.
What part will you play?
DC Entertainment seeks a Marketing Director, Mass Market for the Marketing & Creative Services department. The Marketing Director is responsible for developing sell-thru strategies for DC’s publishing initiatives. Focus includes supporting sales initiatives with marketing materials, promotions and ads that will maximize revenue and sell-thru at accounts.
Develop marketing plans for each channel of trade to support new publishing initiatives. Communicate plans to cross-functional peers in consumer/digital marketing, publicity to plan execution of marketing initiatives.
Oversee the development of all marketing support materials for publishing, including but not limited to sell sheets, newsletters, marketing kits, banner/print ads, etc. Liaise with Editorial teams to understand publishing events.
Liaise with Content Strategy for slate schedule in each book span, and the monthly digital release calendar to receive title information details and ensure proper upload of marketing information to MyHouse. Develop and communicate timeline documents and due dates to Editorial and Production. Provide feedback and approval to Design and Editorial on covers.
Lead general communication regarding trade marketing with distribution partners, communicating marketing and event support for key publishing priorities.
Manage the overall Trade Marketing Budget for each channel of trade, ensuring to manage spending to stay within budget.
Oversee the execution of events (e.g. talent-driven book signings, franchise events like Batman Day) in all channels of trade, as necessary to maximize sales of priority titles.
Attend and manage book trade shows/conventions/events as necessary to communicate priority titles and new publishing initiatives.
What do we require from you?
BA/BS degree or equivalent experience required.
Minimum 8 years experience in publishing marketing or sales.
Comics familiarity preferred.
Experience in the entertainment industry a plus.
Intermediate to Advanced knowledge in MS Office Software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), Adobe Suite Software (Acrobat, Photoshop, InDesign) required.
Collaborative/relationship builder (works with staff, peers, partners).
Highly analytical & a strategic thinker.
Must have the ability to influence others, and drive for results in prioritized manner.
Comfortable working in a fast-paced, highly dynamic work environment.
Ability to travel as needed (up to 40% of the time).
