To date, Up2Us Sports has reached over 300,000 youth by placing nearly 2,200 coaches in underserved urban communities.

Based in mid-town Manhattan, we're looking for an experienced Senior Accountant to join our team. If you have excellent accounting skills, depth of experience, currently live in the NY area, and have experience or a strong desire to work in the non-profit sector with an awesome team of people dedicated to serving young people all over the country then we want to hear from you.

The Senior Accountant will oversee all accounting operations, be responsible for controlling and verifying financial transactions, general bookkeeping functions, reconciling account balances and bank statements, maintaining general ledger and preparing month-end close procedures. A successful Senior Accountant combines excellent analytical skills, a thorough knowledge of accounting principles to accurately prepare and analyze financial reports and forecasts, and the ability to communicate with all levels of the organization. The ideal candidate has also experience collaborating and/or managing a non-profit finance team. This is very a hands-on position.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Work with AR/AP clerk to verify, allocate, post and reconcile accounts payable and receivable
  • Produce error-free accounting reports and present their results
  • Analyze financial information and summarize financial status
  • Spot errors and suggest ways to improve efficiency and spending
  • Review and recommend modifications to accounting systems and procedures
  • Participate in financial standards-setting and in the forecast process
  • Prepare financial statements and produce budget with COO according to schedule
  • Assist with tax audits and tax returns
  • Direct internal and external audits to ensure compliance
  • Plan, assign and review finance staff’s work
  • Support month-end and year-end close process
  • Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP principles
  • Liaise with our Financial Grants Manager and Human Resources Director to improve financial procedures
  • Execute Bi-weekly Payroll


  • Proven experience as a nonprofit account supervisor, controller or senior accountant
  • Thorough knowledge of accounting procedures
  • In-depth understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Knowledge of nonprofit financial accounting statements and reporting needs
  • Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year-end close process
  • Hands-on experience with accounting software packages (Fund-EZ and QuickBooks)
  • Advanced MS Excel skills
  • Accuracy and attention to detail
  • Aptitude for numbers and quantitative skills
  • Knowledge of Federal Contract and Grants Management a plus
  • BS degree in Accounting, Finance or relevant field required
