We have exciting opportunities for Communications Systems Engineers in our Communications Systems Engineering group to support the rapid growth of our remotely controlled Unmanned Aerial Vehicle systems (UAVs). Our UAVs fly well beyond visual ranges. We are looking for top level engineering candidates who can research, engineer, architect, design, analyze, and integrate, airborne mobile Satellite and air to ground RF communication systems in a fast-paced environment. We work with frequencies from UHF to Ka-band. We are one of the fastest growing companies in California.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop the architecture, requirements, and design for the state-of-the-art communications systems including Beyond Line Of Sight (BLOS) satellite communications and Line-Of-Sight (LOS) RF communications links for GA-ASI’s new and existing customers.
Perform as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for company-wide RF and satellite communications projects. Function in a technical leadership role for external customers. Perform sub-contractor technical management to ensure technical requirements are satisfied.
Apply technical knowledge to analyze, investigate, and resolve assigned engineering problems. Perform RF communications systems integration/testing with aircraft and ground control stations.
Coordinate and interface with customers on requirements and flow down the requirements to the corresponding engineering groups.
Support System Integration Lab (SIL) integration and flight test of satellite terminals and RF radios. Work with other engineering groups on test plan, procedure, and report.
Typically requires a Bachelors degree, Masters degree or PhD in Engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and progressive Engineering experience as follows; six or more years of experience with a Bachelors degree, four or more years of experience with a Masters degree, or two or more years with a PhD. May substitute equivalent Engineering experience in lieu of education.
Preferred experience in one or more of the following areas: RF communication systems (commercial or military), mobile satellite communications systems for L-band or X-band or Ku-band or Ka-band satellites, mobile RF networks, common data link (CDL) tactical data links, modems, antennas, radios, VHF/UHF communications, and antenna pointing and tracking systems.
Candidates must have expertise in one or more the following areas: RF systems analysis including link budgets, noise analysis, gain budgets, antenna parameters analysis, modulation/demodulation signal analysis, application of FEC coding, PHY and link layer design analysis. Candidates must have hands on experience working with state of the art instruments including spectrum analyzer, vector network analyzer, and MATLAB programming.
Must possess the ability to develop and communicate new concepts; apply them accurately throughout an evolving environment; organize, schedule, and coordinate work phases; and, determine the appropriate approach at the task level or, with assistance, at the project level to provide solutions to a range of complex problems.
Must have strong communication, computer, documentation, presentation, and interpersonal skills, ability to work independently and as part of a team; able to perform complex tasks in one or more engineering areas; capable of representing the organization as a prime technical contact and, lead a team of moderately experienced professional employees on single component projects.
Able to work extended hours as required. Willing to travel (including supporting flight tests) up to 25%.
Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Security Clearance is required.
