Reports to: Maintenance of Way Supervisor
Description of Work
While using standard test equipment and tools, the Signal/Traction Power maintainer will troubleshoot, perform diagnostic analysis, repair and maintenance of the overhead contact wire system, traction power sub-stations, the signals system, crossing gates, track switches and equipment and the train to wayside communication system.
This is a safety sensitive position subject to the rules and regulations of the Drug and Alcohol policy.
Duties & Responsibilities
Conducts self in appropriate manner as a RTD representative working effectively in a diverse work environment
Will work in high places and in all weather.
Will operate all types of District vehicles and equipment in the performance of their duties.
Will assist other RTD employees as directed or required.
Will serve as a flag or switch-person for the protection of the public, fellow employee and District trains and equipment during emergencies and rerouting of trains.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Two year vocational certificate, or AA degree in Electrical Electronic or Electro/Mechanical Technology.
Must have minimum five (5) years experience in working with voltages of 440 volts or higher.
Must have five (5) years experience working with Micro-Processors.
Demonstrated ability to read and understand plans, blueprints, schematics, operation and service manuals, and other written instructions.
Must be physically capable of performing all job functions. Must have knowledge of first aid and safety practices.
Must pass a mechanical/electrical skills examination with a minimum score of 80%.
Demonstrated ability to maintain a high performance level of dependability, reliability and safety.
Ability to successfully complete certification program for Signal/Traction Power Maintainer, and then to keep abreast of technical requirements and to re-certify on a periodic basis.
All applicants must have or be able to obtain a valid Colorado commercial drivers license Class 'A' with air brake endorsement.
Must not have more than five (5) points assessed against driving record in past two (2) years.
Ability to pass a RTD required Physical Ability Assessment (PAA) related to the physical requirements of the essential functions of the job.
An equivalent combination of education and experience consistent with the required qualifications as determined by the District in conjunction with the hiring manager.
