A post-doctoral research position is available in the lab of Prof. Andrew Gulick performing structural and biochemical analysis of enzymes involved in natural product biosynthesis. The goal of this work is to understand the proteins that bacteria use to produce novel chemicals, including signaling molecules, virulence factors, and other uncharacterized biosynthetic pathways. A particular focus will be on the natural product gene clusters of human pathogens and commensal bacteria. The project will involve protein chemistry, enzymology, and structural analysis through protein crystallography
Minimum requirements include a Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Chemistry, or related field. Experience with structural biology, including protein crystallization, data collection, and structural determination, as well as protein biochemistry, including protein production and purification, enzymology, or additional biophysical analytic techniques, is required.
