In this role, you will be designing and implementing new applications and/or improve existing applications for laboratory and epidemiologic data, as well as migrating data from pre-existing databases. You will also participate in the development of project schedule and data management plans to store and migrate data accurately and on time. Development of specific software to store, migrate, or utilize the data will be done using technologies such as Python, Perl, R, and Java.

Position is for full time employment with GDIT and will be based in our client site in Atlanta at the CDC.

Task and responsibilities in this role include, but are not limited to the following:

Support the development of cutting-edge pipelines and data management systems for the analysis and interpretation of NGS data including data processing, metagenomics, comparative genomics, variant calling, annotation, interpretation, and data presentation
Participate in the technical development process of an emerging NGS analytics and surveillance platforms
Implement state-of-the-art computational methods, and assist in the development of innovative approaches to software challenges that touch aspects of bioinformatics data analysis and management
Develop software pipelines in iterative cycles in a timely manner, based on schedules developed in collaboration with the project manager and other team members
Conduct programming and/or scripting using languages such as Python, Perl, Bash, R and/or Java.
Provide expertise in algorithm generation as well as statistical and computational methods for the analysis of complex, high-throughput biological data
Analyze large-scale genomic datasets acquired internally and through collaboration with other public health organizations worldwide, using statistical/mathematical packages such as SAS, R, and/or MATLAB
Maintain expertise in the science and application of genomic technologies
Develop documentations and assist in providing professional grade reports on ongoing sequencing, analysis, and surveillance activities
Report on project and task progress through daily verbal and monthly written communications

To qualify, you must meet these basic qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in bioinformatics, biotechnology, computational biology, biostatistics, computer science or related fields and two years related experience or the equivalent education/experience
Experience with bioinformatics analyses and pipeline development
Experience with High Performance Computing environments
Experience with front end development using JavaScript, CSS, and HTML
Experience with database technologies such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, and/or NoSQL
Strong experience in Linux/Unix environment

It would be great if you also had:
Full stack experience with MEAN (Mongo, Express, Angular, Node) or MERN (Mongo, Express, React, Node)
Experience with statistical packages such as R and/or SAS
