Senior Financial Analyst

Your role: The Senior Financial Analyst is a team member in the Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) group and will be responsible for maintenance of financial systems and development of reports used for business unit financial analysis, management reporting, and projections. This role requires ownership of financial systems and ability to automate processes and procedures related to report creation. The position has an emphasis on financial systems maintenance and development and requires supporting analysis and reporting of insurance company financial data, as well as compiling reports/presentations for executive management. The position will participate in developing forecasts, creating budget comparisons and other financial reports. The candidate will have strong financial modeling skills, knowledge of TM1 or similar systems, a firm understanding of finance and accounting concepts, and superb analytical abilities.

Recurring monthly and quarterly management reporting responsibilities:
  • Produce financial reports, scorecards, and business commentaries on actual results versus plan, forecast and prior year.
  • Ensure accuracy and integrity of data transfer from General Ledger into Cognos TM1 system.
  • Produce the Financial Results Package which includes P&L, Balance Sheet, Assets Under Administration, Sales, as well as updates on capital, headcount, and operating expenses.
  • Ad-hoc analysis as required, including responses to questions from management.

Recurring annual responsibilities:
  • Maintain financial reports and lead improvements and enhancements to Cognos TM1 system.
  • Support development of long-term financial and operational plan.
  • Financial review processes, including requirements related to reporting of annual results.
  • Develop, implement and maintain monthly and quarterly business reporting requirements and related templates.
  • Drive continual process improvements to enhance existing financial models and develop FP&A processes.

We are seeking a candidate that will provide financial analysis that is necessary to drive growth and operational efficiencies and will coordinate with accounting and actuarial departments to ensure results and forecasts are aligned with expectations.

Your profile: Desired Skills & Experience
  • Prior experience with Cognos TM1 or similar systems (Hyperion/SAP/Adaptive/Host Analytics) strongly preferred.
  • Insurance or actuarial experience preferred.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent analytical skills, proactive approach, and forward thinking.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Able to interpret high-level direction and create actionable plans with limited oversight.
  • Comfort level in managing data intensive projects.
  • Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to deliver to deadlines in line with expectations.

  • Requires a BS/BA degree in related field. (Accounting, Finance, or Actuarial)
  • 2 to 5 years of related experience.
  • Strong knowledge of financial and general ledger accounting.
  • Proficiency with Excel, Power Point, and Access.
