Reports to nursery Department Manager and Design by Terrain Supervisor

This position will support, and report to the Nursery Department Manager and Design By Terrain Supervisor. The Junior Planted Specialist will facilitate client communication, create & execute plant design projects instore in conjunction with the supervisor. This position requires a thorough knowledge of brand aesthetic, designing with living materials and an ability to translate trend and seasonality into onsite projects. The Junior Planted Specialist will possess and understanding of the retail, visual, horticulture and events systems in order to ensure that all projects are on-brand, cohesive, and appropriate. This role will require a flexibility to balance schedule, retail needs, inventory control, client sensitivities, and team growth. This position primarily will focus on indoor/outdoor container design but should be flexible to assist with all areas of Design by Terrain based on the needs of the business as well as some operational responsibilities.


Daily communication with Nursery Department Manager, DBT Supervisor/Design Manager and Store Management; weekly meetings and per-project follow-ups as needed.
Manage client design communication and client file.
Create material palettes with focus on retail product.
Coordinate and facilitate consultation of instore design with Nursery Department Manager/ DBT Supervisor
Flexible with scheduling and willing to work weekends
Awareness of retail concepts, cohesion with visual inspiration, and collaboration with all departments.
Basic computer skills, including Microsoft office
Willingness to learn back of house operations to assist with the logistics of the program
Works well with others but can also be efficient in a solo environment


Contribute design inspiration and project ideas on a regular basis
Ability to translate customer needs into brand appropriate designs
Working knowledge of basic hand tools
Ability to accept feedback on collaborative projects
Understanding of art, style, and use of color
Eye for composition
Inherent interest in horticulture and natural elements; comfortable with natural environments and inclement weather
Maintain awareness of home and garden trends and how to apply them to brand aesthetic
Maintain clean, organized, and safe workspace
Master product knowledge, specific product details, and ability to speak to customer about product
Should be able to lift at least 40lbs
