Assumes responsibility for the technical, educational, business, and administrative functions of the Vascular Laboratory within the Section of Vascular Surgery .
Oversees Vascular Laboratory services. Ensures compliance with administrative guidelines as well as State and Federal regulations. Oversees Laboratory information systems and performs outcome analyses and monitors patient, physician and technologist trends.
Assists in the preparation of the annual operating and capital budgets. Forecasts annual volume projections. Ensures compliance with budget, including monitoring and analyzing performance and implementing corrective actions to resolve unfavorable variances. Collaborates in the development and implementation of appropriate coding and billing of Vascular Laboratory Services.
Assists in the recruitment, hiring, evaluation, terminate, counseling, initiation of corrective actions, and/or termination of staff. Assists in the development of job descriptions. Develops and implements staffing plans and the on-call schedule.
Ensures regular maintenance of capital equipment. Collaborates with Clinical Engineering and vendors to negotiate service contracts, as appropriate.
Ensures optimal use of required space, working with Hospital Facilities, as appropriate.
Oversees the maintenance of Intersocietal Commission of Accreditation of Vascular Laboratories (ICAVL) accreditation and JCAHO requirements.
Ensures compliance with Hospital and Clinic policies and procedures.
Establishes short and long range program planning.
Represents the Laboratory in sectional meetings and other interactions with the Clinic, Hospital, School of Medicine and affiliates. Interacts with local, regional, national and international agencies/professional societies to promote worldwide recognition of the Vascular Laboratory.
Acts as Technical Director for all off-site labs and the mobile lab.
Oversees highly specialized or difficult exams and assists staff, fellows and trainees in performing examinations. Triages lab appointments and serves as relief technologist/sonographer during staffing shortages or heavy exam schedules. Correlates findings of non-invasive evaluation of results of ultrasound studies and appropriate recommendations for further vascular laboratory diagnostic procedures.
Oversees a comprehensive quality assurance plan. Ensures appropriate standards are maintained for laboratory accreditation. Presents vascular lab studies in multidisciplinary vascular conferences. Coordinates and directs weekly “lab rounds” and “QA” meetings of on-going education and quality control. Ensures adherence to laboratory policies including relaying of preliminary findings and inpatient charting. Works with the Medical Director to develop and/or maintain guidelines for study interpretation.
Remains current on technology advances, diagnostics and other operational administrative aspects of the Laboratory through involvement in local, regional and national professional societies and other professional education affiliations.
Performs a variety of academic responsibilities to include, but not be limited to: fellowship training development, externship training, attending educational conferences, coordination and co-direction of research projects, author/co-author scientific publications, acting as an international contact, and participation in lectures to promote Vascular Laboratory Service education.
Performs other duties as required or assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree with 5 years of dedicated vascular laboratory and patient care experience required.
Excellent oral and written communication skills required.
3 years of supervisory and management experience, including budget preparation and personnel management, or the equivalent preferred.
Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with a diverse faculty and staff as a variety of professional levels essential.
Previous experience in vascular laboratory development and experience working in an academic setting strongly preferred.
Computer software and database management strongly preferred. Required Licensure/Certification Skills:
RVT certification required.
Currently Registered with the New Hampshire Board of Registration for Medical Technicians
