We are seeking local skilled real-time captioners for onsite captioning services for technical corporations in the greater Silicon Valley. Some remote opportunities also exist for onsite captioners.
The salary range for this position is $120 - $150/hour.
Provide onsite human-generated real-time captioning services in technical settings using computer-aided transcription (CAT) software
Real-time captions are to consist of immediate verbatim translation of spoken English into text in a readable format per consumer’s request
Facilitate concurrent participation in the communication process by
maintaining high-quality standards for captioning services
Convey the content of the message as well as environmental sounds clearly and accurately
Work with the Caption Pros staff to resolve any technical issues
Work with the Caption Pros staff to development job dictionaries and familiarity with content
Reliable and excellent attention to detail
Provide consumer(s) with a roughly edited caption file or fully edited transcript, upon request
Maintain backup systems, including Internet access, to avoid loss of services
Maintain current backups of real-time dictionaries and CAT software settings
Be current on customer support of CAT software
Must comply with the National Court Reporters Association (NCRA) CART Code of Ethics
Maintain impartiality, confidentiality, and integrity at all times
At least three years of previous real-time captioning experience in corporate settings, with a minimum of one year in technical settings
Proficiently write in real-time in a conflict-free manner using punctuation and sustaining accuracy in fast-paced stressful situations
Ability to produce captions at speed of at least 230+ words per minute with a 99% total error rate
Experience with team captioning in hybrid settings (one captioner onsite, one remote)
Have a comprehensive knowledge of the English language, including grammatical structures, syntax, spelling vocabulary, and punctuation and use it in real-time captions
Have sensitivity training and awareness of working with individuals with hearing loss
Have the knowledge of CAT software to change formatting immediately upon consumer request
Have the ability to move equipment from one location to another quickly and discreetly
Have the knowledge and ability to problem solve different technical setups on the fly
Experience with and possession of appropriate captioning tools for streamed events or projected captions (1capapp, Streamtext, Text on Top, HDMI output)
Must hold one or more of the following: Certified Realtime Captioner (NCRA), NER-Certified Speech-to-Text Provider (Global Alliance of Speech-to-Text Captioning), or Registered CART Provider - Master (NVRA).
