Reporting directly to the Therapeutic Area VP (TAVP), the Head of Fasenra (benralizumab) will lead a team of 4-5 experienced Global Medical Affairs Leaders, charged with delivering an ambitious medical strategy for the Respiratory franchise’s highest priority brand across a number of eosinophil-driven diseases. The Head of Fasenra will represent Medical Affairs on the Fasenra Global Product Team (GPT) and will execute the medical strategy through leadership of the Global Medical Team, comprised of Medical Directors from the priority markets. The role entails delivering high impact clinical evidence through new Ph3b/4 clinical trials and demonstrate world-class scientific engagement with external experts and other key customers.

In this role the Head of Fasenra, GMA will therefore develop key working relationships across all functions in the Respiratory franchise, as well as Medical Affairs Leadership globally through the Therapeutic Area Co-ordination Unit (TACU).
Leadership of the GMA team for the Fasenra franchise
Owner of the Fasenra Medical Strategy, including all LCM
Leadership of the Global Medical Team (GMT)
Cross-functional leadership and collaboration across all GMA functions (e.g. medical information, publications, MEOR, patient centricity, epidemiology) and the Global Product Team (commercial, R&D, regulatory, biostatistics etc)
Design and execution of high impact Ph3b/4 clinical trials and RWE studies (+ other evidence generation e.g. retrospective analyses etc) to address important evidence gaps to help customers use Fasenra optimally and to advance clinical practice
Create an environment of strong team spirit, good communication and high motivation to enable inspired and effective team members to achieve goals
Advances reputation of AstraZeneca and the Respiratory Medical Affairs organization with leading experts
Confidence and Evidence budget management to within +/- 2%

Minimum Requirements – Education and Experience
10+ years expertise in the relevant TA required
Highly desired: Experience launching biologic products (within Respiratory TA preferred)
Experienced team leader in Global Medical Affairs or similar function
Strong demonstration of strategic and medical leadership prowess at therapeutic area and senior leader meetings
Demonstrated track record in delivering new initiatives, capabilities and leading large scale impactful medical initiatives desired
Demonstrated success in building and executing multi-year strategic roadmaps highly desired
Experience leading teams with a track record of delivering results in a complex environment
Strong working relationships with Global leaders in Respiratory medicine, including KEEs, professional societies, pharmaceutical companies

Skills and Capabilities
Proven ability to create bespoke strategy and mobilise an organization to execute
Strong executive presence and ability to work collaboratively with global executive teams and leadership
Proven ability to collaborate with internal and external colleagues in various geographies, cultures, roles, and hierarchic levels – enterprise leadership mindset

Understanding of the complex and evolving Medical Affairs space with insights about trends, opportunities, risks, and an understanding of external stakeholders
Ability to manage overall business and medical priorities while also being able to actively engage in more detailed execution discussions
Ability to fluidly flex between high level strategy and detailed tactics as required
