The SOARING program prepares CNA's to practice in an advanced direct patient care role. Under the direct supervision of a Clinical Instructor, the Clinical Technician Intern performs routine patient activities and delegated patient care procedures of a specialized and technical nature which includes observing and monitoring patient condition, identifying changes in collected patient data and notifying nurse, setting-up and maintaining specialized clinical equipment, knowledge of aseptic technique, collecting blood specimens and performing related, delegated nursing procedures.

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent, and successful completion of a "Patient Care Technician" or "Advanced Patient Care Skills" course at one of the following colleges:

Anne Arundel Community College: Advanced Patient Care Techninian
Baltimore City Community College: Patient Care Technician
Community College of Baltimore County: Patient Care Technician
Howard Community College: Advanced Patient Care Skills
Frederick Community College
Prince George's Community College

Certification, Licensure, etc: Certified Nursing Assistant license active on the MBON. Active CPR certification provided by American Heart Association, American Red Cross, or Military Training Network.

Knowledge: Knowledge of routine patient care activities (i.e. VS, pulse, oximetry, ht/wt, abdominal girth). Knowledge of aseptic technique, basis wound care, patient safety, and patient transport techniques. Knowledge of recording and reporting pertinent clinical data. Knowledge of setting up and management of specialized patient care equipment.
